  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I thought I would give this a try, but of course I picked a hard sentence for this... and it being old english...
didn't know if anyone else did this and who is more familiar with it than I am?
I haven't done this in years.
Not sure if this is diagrammed right. is it?

Thank you, I've seen sentence diagramming before, but I couldn't see benefits from this technique. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Doesn't quite look right to me. The "branches" shouldn't be joining up, for a start. Also, the "it is ..." refers back to "the word ...," and the bits in brackets are side branches.

For -- the word (of the cross) -- is folly (to those who are perishing)
but -- (to us who are being saved) it is the power (of God).

I thought for was a preposition and since the sentence started out with that it goes on top instead of under?

I made no comment on where "for" should go. But, like I said, "it" refers back to "the word." Also, these three coloured sections are distinct "chunks":

the word (of the cross)
is folly (to those who are perishing)
(to us who are being saved) it is the power (of God).
