What's with all the incursions lately? We got people pretending to be Reformed trying to convince us to dump our labels and people pretending to ask questions about doctrine and then arguing about the answers. Then there's that one guy who went off like an M-80 on the Fourth of July in the TULIP thread. Has Reformed-bashing become the distraction du jour for the heretics of the forum?

probably - but don't bother ;)

Joh 15,20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

Lk 21,17 And ye shall be hated of all [men] for my name's sake.

Act 9,16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

And they say we're the sneaky ones. I attended a meeting of one of the Christian groups at college, and it seemed to me that you could hold to just about any unorthodox theology, but Reformed theology was a no-no. Modalists linked arms with Pelagians to gossip about those mean ol' Calvinists and their determinism. Anyway, I talked to some of them online, and they told me how they like to go into Calvinist forums and chatrooms and try to trip them up. Seems to be a trend.

I hope I have not contributed to your misery. My own understanding of the gospel is actually very near most of what I read here and I am edified by this forum. However, if my presence is causeing grief I will surely excuse myself, and ask your forgiveness.

You've been fine, ToL. It was my own misunderstanding that made me question your question -- lol.

I've run into this, too. What really bothers me is how the universalists bring up hell in almost every thread in GA to proclaim how they disbelieve hell. When I pose a question about it, I get accused of being not loving, tsk-tsked, not accepting the truth of the bible, blind, hateful, and then the kicker: judgmental! It's not limited to universalists either -- also comes from ill-read Arminians.

Sometimes I think we are viewed as carriers of disease.

Guess I'm sidetracking. Just realized you were talking about Semper Reformanda. oops

Thank you. I was concerned there for a moment because this forum does seem to have a high regard for the study of the Word and it's practical and doctrinal application to the life of the believer. I would greatly miss the opportunity to post here.

It was my discussions with a very well prepared Calvinist over a year ago that finally opened my eyes to the truth of God's sovriegn choice in who is saved and who is not. I had always known that my own salvation came soley by God's choice, but every teaching I had ever been exposed to pushed the "freewill" Arminian viewpoint. What is amazing is all the other fluff that got cleared out too just by coming to understand the Truth of the matter.

Cyg is right... This is where I return to get hold of my sanity. Cruising some of the other forums gives me serious heartburn and often I leave with a broken heart.

Being past the age of being willing to put up with the aggravation and hostile atmosphere on many of the other forums on CF, I no longer post anywhere but here. As CoR said, it is the place of sanity.

When I questioned the doctrine of grace, I was a bit testy. When the ramifications hit me, I got downright defensive. I imagine the same experience is true of several others here, so we can relate to some degree. There may be questions you have, and much of the time they will be questions we have had before. Also, what is the point of apologetics if there are no questions? SR welcomes those who wants to understand what's going on. That is why the "ask a calvinist" sub-forum was introduced.

Besides, if anyone should have thick skin it should be us bad ole calvinists!

Isaiah 29:13-14

And the Lord said:
“Because this people draw near with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
while their hearts are far from me,
and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,
therefore, behold, I will again
do wonderful things with this people,
with wonder upon wonder;
and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”

Uh oh - I think I've been found out. I was really just pretending to like you guys - I'm working up to out and out abuse!:p

Just you wait... when you least expect it.

Oh - and see if you can guess who else is in on it - some may have been lurking, pretending to be calvanists for quite some time!

I've seen people get more than just a bit testy! I think I've actually seen what the "weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth" thing means! :D

Great Isaiah passage.
