  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I need some help. Frankly, being a christian means being selfless and not selfish. Well, my mind is twisting this truth again in my head like it has with many other things in the past. It is telling me the day to day things that I do are selfish. Things like thinking to myself is selfish. brushing my teeth is selfish. Even sleeping! It's driving me crazy! Does anybody have any advice/ Bible verses? I'm still new to Christianity.

You can turn your thoughts around - your mind is trying to turn you into a legalist robot - your walk with Jesus is not like that - a personal relationship with Jesus - walking hand in hand and being guided by the Holy Spirit - there is nothing in the Bible speaking of the things you are referring to, so don't fill you mind with stuff that has no purpose.

Living for Jesus should bring Joy to you and let the light of God's love shine through you - your life will be a witness to people wanting what you have - a beautiful walk with Jesus - not one that is filled with legal condemnation - no one would want a walk with that kind of boundaries.

Just relax, live your life and don't bind up your mind with thoughts that are of no concern to how your life with Jesus will be.

Living the Christian life doesn't have to be a constant struggle to be perfect, to constantly do things for God, or to win the approval of other Christians. I sure can understand how you feel though because sometimes I have done the above and have to watch I don't fall into that trap again.

When Jesus said to take upon His yoke, and that his burdon was easy..he meant it just for you and me. Trust him that as you dedicate each day to him, as you praise God for what He is doing and will do in your life, he will bring a sense of peace, purpose, and direction and needed grace and strength. That is sufficient. As you grow in the fruits of His Spirit then you find that God works on you and brings you to conviction and changes. It doesn't happen over night. Remember that.. only God is perfect. His love also is perfect. And he is merciful and kind, good, and faithful.

He works in us..the main thing is to let him do that. See Ps. 139..especially the first ten verses..to see that God has always known you and loved you even when you were in your mother's womb. And there wasn't much you could do then. :)

Jeremiah 29:11: "I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for welfare...to give you a future and a hope." (RSV)

It might help to try to limit your goals to what God wants, and not what people want. (I don't know, maybe OCD would make this more obsessive??)

People put a lot of demands on others, and it's usually so they can compete and win over others. God doesn't need to compete. So if thoughts are hinting at "what will people say," then erase the people, and shift that over to God.

If you are pleasing God, then you will end up helping people.
