• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

About 20 years ago I had some money I was going to invest in rental properties, but by studying the bible, I decided to give it all away.
I did something similar in 2009. Hopefully you are o.k. with your decision. There are times that I wish I had not done that, but I hope that it served a purpose of some kind.

Well, he lived in both spectrums, flat broke and LOADED and I'm sorry but I'm gonna take the word of someone who's actually BEEN THERE.
I would agree that a person needs enough income to live a normal modest life without stressing over how to pay for the necessities. I don't make very much money, but I am lucky that my expenses are low too. Most people aren't so fortunate.

Hey man, look... if you can be happy eating out of garbage cans and looking for an abandoned building to squat in for a couple days at a time, more power to you but that kinda life just plain stinks if you ask me.

It's definitely better to have a nice income. For one thing, it makes you feel more valued by other people. It's especially hard when I'm around people who seem "better" than me.

My wife Cindy got me an awesome gift today. A smart watch. Super cool and very useful. I had to give it back to her and tell her to give it to somebody else because I'm just too stupid to figure out how to use it. I feel terrible about it, she asked me what color I wanted and everything, but I just can't use it. Hopefully she knows someone who can figure it out.

Studying the bible would help you, you don't know it since you haven't done it much.
Look at these verses.

Matthew chapter 4 verse 4
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
Romans chapter 1 verse 28
Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.

John chapter 8 verse 31,32
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, " If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
2 John
9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
Job chapter 23 verse 12
I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

Matthew 11
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Luke chapter 21
33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Romans chapter 10
17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
Mark chapter 13
31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
James chapter 1
25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
James chapter 4
8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Isaiah chapter 45 verse 19
I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right.
Jeremiah chapter 9
24 but let the one who boasts boast about this:
that they have the understanding to know me,
that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,”
declares the Lord.
Jeremiah chapter 5 verse 1
5 “Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem,
look around and consider,
search through her squares.
If you can find but one person
who deals honestly and seeks the truth,
I will forgive this city.
Psalm 119 verse 114
You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.

Interesting that You mention that heaven and earth will pass away... the same Thursday that You wrote that at about 16.11-15 Finnish time A huge burning meteor was flunged down from the sky and landed in Lapland. It was a big noise and lit up much of the dark black sky on the video. Ilta Sanomat a newspaper in Finland had a video of the meteor landing. It was said that also other places in northern Finland heard and saw similar things that Thursday evening.

Why not go to a "nerd store" or gym if it is a sports watch and ask.

(regarding self-loathing..) The only insight I can share is that exercise help me feel better about myself for a day or two afterwards.

Cloudy, I also notice the power of exercise. It's seems simplistic, but I wonder if a lot of our contemporary mental suffering is simply due to increasingly sedentary lives (?)
I get that it sounds too basic/stupid to be true.. but humans were meant to expend more anxiety-taming energy I think, in basic toil, etc.. But who knows.

Meantime, praying for folks with self-esteem issues. They can be debilitating.

Yes I sweated in the gym before, now I sweat in the garden and it produces thousands of roses, apples, pears, tulips, I will not get any crop if I only go to the gym but sure a 130 pounds heavy stone make me struggle just as well. But I have a benchpress and much weights because if I go to a gym all men start staring at me because I lift so much so I rather lift at home. Excersize is great for the mood.

I found this link if anybody is interested. The problem is that a person with depression or other problems has more difficulty motivating to do the exercise.
People who exercise have better mental fitness, and a new imaging study from UC Davis Health System shows why. Intense exercise increases levels of two common neurotransmitters -- glutamate and gamma-aminobutyric acid, or GABA -- that are responsible for chemical messaging within the brain.

Yes, furious angry people are easily motivated, but a depressed person gets happier in a pineforest, or cedar, pine and spruce has oils that create higher testosteronelevels in people and joy and take a stroll in such a forest and You find Yourself refreshed, especially if they have cut trees there. Also gardenwork is great, looking at flowers in bloom or eating your own salad in summer is rewarding and saves money, flowting in a swimming hall does not take much energy and can be fun. Bring on some kids and it is eaven funnier. If You are seriously depressed remember to talk, talk, talk about it, those pills make You repress the cause and makes You fat in the long run and apathic, without feelings, the willingness to change things in life seem to have disappeared with some antidepressants and I find that rather scary.
