• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have seizures as well. I am on Lamictal (450mg) and Keppra (2500) twice daily. 2500 per dose is pretty much max for any human, and most people could probably handle another 150mg of Lamictal.

I had grand mals when younger. After surgery, I was put on Tegretal for a couple of years. I was weaned off of Tegretal, then about a decade after that, I had a couple grand mals, just out of the blue, so I was put back on these 2 medicines. I no longer have all out seizures, but I do have partial seizures that do not necessarily interferre with daily operations.

Sorry I didnt respond back quicker.
Still not doing too well. Doc wants me to swap to another medicine. Supposedly it increases your weight (makes you think you are more hungry than you really are).

I can sympathize with you there. All seizure meds make me gain weight except for topamax, and that had other bad side effects.

How much of keppra are you taking as of today?

I am at 2000mg in morning, 2500mg night. Thats about as far as I can go before killing myself (according to the doc).
Lamictal, 300mg in morning, 450 night. Lamictal will make you go dizzy, face/arms/chest go numb, and flat out make you pass out if you take anything over 150mg without food in your stomach. I have had it happen several times.

I have partial-complex and focal-sensory seizures. I've had them all my life and the focus of them is the amygdala (the emotions centre of the brain) and it's inoperable. I was on phenobarbitol for the 1st 30 yrs. of my life and I was allergic to it! No fun when it makes you hyperactive and it's supposed to do the opposite!

Brownstoned, that's part of the side effects of the Rx, and there's not a thing you can do about it. I would encourage you to write down your thought when you want to say something so that you won't be so confused. I have to concentrate extremely hard on what I'm going to say, but I'm pretty well able to keep on the topic at hand. I was on Tegretol, but my system tolerated it, so I'm now on a "cocktail" of depekene, dilantin and valproic acid to control them. I still get the same effeects as you do, but I learn to take it in stride. You're not limited to everything; rather find out what your limitations are and work from there.

Katakalupto, how recent is "Keppra"? I know there are other Rx out now that weren't available when I was a child, but I'd still like to know about them.
