I get your point, but it seems to me it may be a little extreme, perhaps a little too black and whitish, particularly in how it relates to the OP and the delimma confronting him.
I don't think helping him and others in a similar situation to get by, when jobs are scarce or have been put on hold, can be feared as rampant socialism or heading that way either. I can't ever see the US being a socialist state, at least in my time, unless Russia or China takes you over unexpectedly.
We also have to be careful that our opinions don't demean anyone that finds themselves in a similar state as the OP, and shame them into not applying for or accepting assistance that has thoughtfully been made available for such purposes.
There needs to be a balance between socialism and liberalism, I think that would be what God would expect of us.
