I am seeking a mentor or more than one for Godly counsel through email mostly. I continue to struggle with huge questions and live a miserable christian life more often than not. I try to be in His joy but its rare. Are there people at all that can think as deep as me? That can answer outrageous questions, and stay true to God and His Word? I am born again, and have been made fun of for being Baptist. But its what I am . I am independent baptist. Not crazy, mean baptist but I go to a church that is honest, sensitive and trusts in God for its paths in life. I am saved and believe in salvation. I do not believe you can lose it. I am not a charismatic and do not believe women can be Pastors. I stick tried and true to God and His Word and I read the King James Version. Might be hard but its closest to the original. I wrote a blog post about this and talked more about it but it would be spam if I posted it here. So for those interested in learning more, please message me and/or check my profile for my blog link and its the latest post. Thank you! I have been praying about this, you pray as well.

Is there no one in your church that can be of help to you ReformedJen?

Nope. I have already had counsel twice from my Pastor and he is very busy. I talk to a few people that are friends but our church is kind of distant at least in the people that attend. People are busy with there lives and dont have time to mentor anyone. I cant think of anyone that can..

Would you like someone from CF to mentor you? Or a chaplain? You can ask the chaplains anything and they take the time to pray and respond personally and also privately. I think there are several on here and they are ministers and familiar with baptists.

ReformedJen: Discipleship should be available in all churches that claim Christ as they Savior...if there be no one or even a discipleship class in the church, then I offer whatever help I can be to you.

It probably is but our church is just very busy. I would rather talk to someone ongoing not just a one time thing. You can message me if you want, thanks.

When you go to the "Forums" page, scroll down just a little, you'll see "Introductions" then "Welcome Center". There are two sections under that and the second one is called "The Lounge". "Chaplain's Office" is where you want to go.

Not sure if there's anyone that's reformed on there (I imagine that's what your beliefs fall under since it's in your screen name, but maybe not), but you can check it out.

I'd offer to help, but I'm fairly new at Christianity myself (converted 3 yrs ago) and still struggle with many things (for me it's finding the balance between grace and truth; seems like I'm either all one or all the other, it's really a difficult thing for me. That's just one of the things at least.).

Even though I'm busy, I'd love to look for ways to help people since I'm sure there's people that are way more busier than I am. Let me know if you'd like to talk. Best wishes on your search for a mentor. May the Lord keep you and guide you in this.

I would seek a flesh and blood mentor of like mindedness. Trying to find a mentor on an internet forum is irresponsible and can be dangerous. It seems to me like Independent Fundamental Baptists pride themselves in taking care of those in their flock and most of them do not believe in associating with others that are not of their beliefs. If they cannot find the time to guide you then that is quite sad. I would look for another assembly to worship with. Most independent baptists I have known have no joy at all and are quite judgemental and criticizing. Probably because they see witches and demons around every corner and in those things they claim to be inappropriate and worldly.

The OP can ask for the online mentor's church phone number, talk to the pastor about the person etc and have the mentor send them a current background check...that's reasonable enough and I wouldn't expect anything less.
I would do that offline as well.

I keep having to explain myself about my church and that actually gets to me a little because im SO tired of the ridicule that baptists face. My church is amazing, its caring, and kind, and truly connects with its visitors and members. Just because i cant talk to someone there all the time does not mean that they dont care. we have a huge congregation of 800 people and only two pastors to carry the load of the church and its very hard on them. im sorry im not looking for a fight but i hate the comment about no joy, critical and criticizing and the demon one really hits home because I was oppressed by demons last year so i wont go there.

Hi; good to see you; God bless His Word to you.

So do you enjoy the sermons of Spurgeon? I find them to be a great tonic, with a very warm and practical way of looking at the Scriptures.

I think people take the name Reformed too seriously. I just made my username that last year to say I had changed. But thanks for pointing out where the chaplains are. I need to check it out.

Reformed also sometimes refers to the doctrines of the Reformation from the Bible; and also to a particular view of eschatology and church government associated with Presbyterians and others. But there are Reformed Baptists as well.

His writings never fail to encourage! :)

He has a way of putting things that make you feel he is a weak but warm human being sitting in the pew beside you, full of sympathy and giving God all the glory.

I Love Spurgeon!! ...

PS: Spurgeon was also a very compassionate person; he funded orphanages; and was in his day very supportive of the status and opportunities for working women. He didn't mince his words; as a social feature of his time, he regarded the lack of employment for women a "great evil".

Glad to hear it. This was not my experience with IFB.
Not saying demon oppression is not real. Just saying that many Baptists and Charismatics blame them for too much. By the way I am Baptist.

Yes, I use the KJV but sometimes consult a variety of versions and commentaries.
