Even if it's considered as a second babtism. There is no biblical reason why someone could not. There are real reasons why they could. However, salvation is not predicated upon terrestrial baptism by a member of a church. So long as it is undertaken for the right reasons, it is a good and right thing to do when an adult decides to dedicate their lives to Christ and accept His salvation.

Thanks. We spoke about baptism at the new Christian's class I am attending and they made clear I would not being doing it for my salvation. The handout said "baptism is like a wedding ring. No one would say that a marriage and a wedding ring are the same thing. If you lose your wedding ring, you are still married. But the wedding ring is important because it is a concrete commitment you made on the wedding day and everyday. It is the symbol of the covenant of marriage. Baptism is a symbol of the covenant of salvation."

Frankly, I'm surprised that a Presbyterian church would advise an unnecessary second baptism. However, I notice that the analogy about marriages and wedding rings doesn't actually address the issue. I know of no church that thinks baptism guarantees salvation, and the wedding ring comparison fails because you haven't "lost" your baptism like the ring in the story.

Yikes, I need to change that. The church I am attending is nondenominational (although both pastors are ordained Anglican). I was a member of a PCUSA church.

Ah, yes. I just noticed the other thread you started and so I picked up that fact. ;)

Anyway, my comments would remain the same if we strike out the part about being surprised about the Presbyterian church. What a non-denomination church would think about baptism would most likely be different (as you discovered), as most non-denoms are essentially Baptist in theology.

To see/ research/ look up via Bible search, or other:

A symbol in part. What specifically does Scripture Say Immersion in Jesus' Name accomplishes ?
Specifically , not before, not after, which are different times.
Can you narrow it down for me? As to where to find the answer?
I did find 1 Peter 3:21 "and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ"-but it seems to imply that the baptism saves you? Now I am more confused.

Exactly, the comparison is a huge fail. Even though I know it shouldn't it still surprises that there are Churches that will go against the Bible and History to say that a person needs or should get a second baptism in a way to me it seems quite blasphemous

I said the Jesus prayer when I was 9 because I was afraid of going to hell and I figured hey, if I can get out of hell by saying a prayer, I'll do it. I did not actually believe. I followed up with baptism because it was expected. Now I believe and I am wondering if I should get baptized again? I don't feel a lot of anxiety over it; I'm just wondering what people think.

The answer depends on what church you go to. For Presbyterians, no.

If you feel that you want to do something to profess your faith you might be able to give your testimony in church. At my church as part of being baptised the person gives their testimony.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with you being baptised again because of the circumstances of your first baptism, and especially because of your young age. Others are saying that a second baptism would be just you getting wet. I think the opposite and think that the first time was just getting wet.

Follow Jesus.
Ask, ask, ask, ask, ask, ask, ask, ask the Father all the time, constantly, about all things. Right at His Throne , for help in time of need. Trust Him.

Seek, seek, seek, seek, seek, seek, seek, seek, keep seeking His Kingdom Daily, always, all of our lives, every day. His Promise is Faithful and True.
"Seek, and keep seeking, and we will find" (it is an ongoing living true relationship LISTENING TO HIM
having a SINGLE EYE TO HIM - devoted to Him, enthralled with Him, obedient to Him, rejoicing in Him,

"whosoever's mind is STAYED on CHRIST, the same is KEPT (GUARDED BY HIM) in PERFECT PEACE"
(nothing circumstantial outside of Him can shake this peace He Gives) ....
