I was having a conversation at work this week with one of the church members. He told me of the problems a few of the SDA students are facing at our local university.
The students are medical students, the problem is that their examination will be held on a Saturday.
There are requesting the University to change the day since they cannot BREAK the Sabbath. They have exhausted every appeal and the University is not backing down. I hope everything works for them. The one thing that bothers me is that after SDA's become doctors many do not attend church, their EXCUSE is that they have to work.
If you cannot sit an exam on Saturday you should work on Saturday. They use the argument that doctors are DOING GOOD. (they are presumably quoting Jesus after he told the Pharisees that if an animal fell into a ditch they could remove him. Any SDA who is Pharmacist, air traffic controller can use that argument too, since every one can claim they are doing good. I do not buy their argument, I am not saying that they should not work on Saturdays, BUT the same way they are opposed to sitting an exam they should try to get their work hours change in some way when they become doctors. I have a friend whose daughter is a doctor but she has barely attended church since she became a doctor.
THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED TO A FRIEND OF MINE
A friend of mine visited the USA a few years ago and when she got to New York she was tired after the flight. When she got to her aunt's apartment she felt tired. She freshened up and decided to watch some TV. The aunt was annoyed and said, Tonight is MY SABBATH please turn it off. But my friend said to me, imagine I cannot watch tv on the Sabbath, but she is lying in bed on the Sabbath with another woman's husband. THE HYPOCRISY IS SO GLARING.
I believe many are inconsistent when it comes to Sabbath keeping.
Jesus did things on the Sabbath, If I had a medical exam to sit I would go. I know many will say a SDA doing that. I am a CHRISTIAN first. At Antioch they were called Christians in the book of Acts..
