Scrupulosity

It's become clear to me that I may have some form of scrupulosity. Now I haven't been professionally diagnosed or anything but I've looked it up and can relate to it so much.

I get so anxious about whether or not I have committed a sin and look for answers from a Priest, this forum or teens 412. I feel overwhelmed sometimes because I don't know what to do, there isn't always a clear answer which leaves me worrying for most of the day or more. I'm struggling to cope because I think it's making me depressed (again not an official diagnosis). I want to feel joy and peace but I mostly feel fear and worry. I'm asking whether things are sins a lot because I'm worried that if I do them then God will send me to Hell.

People say that Jesus washes away our sins and yes, it's an incredible and selfless thing to do! But then people also emphasise that you shouldn't commit sins but at the same time the Bible says we will always commit sins because of Adam & Eve. So I don't know what I'm supposed to do...

I am very sorry that you're going through this, I believe that I have scrupulosity too because I have dealt with bad terrible thoughts for almost 3 years and I used to have bad anxiety too, God loves you and I struggle too, just please know that you're not alone. scrupulosity can be overcome by a basic understanding of the gospel. And i mean basic. The last part of your post shows you don't know the gospel. Redemption means redemption, why would you have to power to reverse that?

I am very sorry that you're going through this, I believe that I have scrupulosity too because I have dealt with bad terrible thoughts for almost 3 years and I used to have bad anxiety too, God loves you and I struggle too, just please know that you're not alone. scrupulosity can be overcome by a basic understanding of the gospel.

It's not just as simple as understanding the gospel, there's often doubt and worry in my mind which you might think is unfounded and you might well be right but for me it often doesn't seem that way.

the Bible says we will always commit sins because of Adam & Eve.

We commit sin because of the Devil, but because we commit sin means not that we cannot discontinue the terrible pattern of sin as shown in 1 John 3:5-10; it states the following:

5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away sins; and in him is no sin.

6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither knoweth him.

7 [My] little children, let no man lead you astray: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous: 8 he that doeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. To this end was the Son of God manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

9 Whosoever is begotten of God doeth no sin, because his seed abideth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is begotten of God.

10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

When we are truly reborn we will commit no more sin. We should not expect being reborn to happen instantaneous, for just like our first birth it is a process.

As for this, if you seek answers and cannot find answers from man, or wish to verify answers of man, seek the word of God. Search the scripture. If you have trouble understanding the word of God, look for other peoples interpretations, but do not forget to pray to God and receive verification, for no man in above him.

As for feeling joy and peace we cannot find these things without God as shown in John 14:27:

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

To accomplish this we must put our complete faith in Jesus Christ, and Repent of all sins. Remember repentance is asking for forgiveness, but no apology is genuine if sin is continues. To genuinely repent is to ask for forgiveness, and to turn from sin. But we cannot change without God! I do recommend praying to God-- Very much!
