O thou afflicted, tossed with temptest, and not comforted,
behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colors.
(Isa. 54:11)

Strength comes from Adversity

Strength Loves
Adversity

I would not lose the hard things from my life--
The rocks o'er which I stumbled long ago,
The griefs, the fears, the failures, the mistakes,
That tried and tested faith and patience so.
I need them now; they make the deep-laid wall,
The firm foundation-stones on which I raise,
To mount thereon from stair to stair,
The lofty towers of my House of Praise.
~Unknown~

Is there no end to trials? Is there no limit to affliction?" you ask.
"Can there be assurance that God knows our every care, our every weakness? Will not the morning break with new hope and refreshing courage?" Yes, dear heart, there is hope, there is a limit. Did not our Lord Himself promise us that we would not have to suffer affliction beyond that which He had to endure? God sends affliction and He removes it. Quietly wait and patiently endure the will of the Lord till He comes. When His design in using the rod is fully served, He ends the trials and He limits the affliction. If the affliction if or a time of testing, that we might become as pure gold, that we might glorify God, it will end when the Lord has used us to bear witness to His grace and goodness. When we have given to Him all the honor which we can possibly render to Him, then we would wish the affliction to depart.

The hard things in life come for benefit later on. we must needs experience them to better endure the future where often lurks tribulations much greater than the present. Easy paths without sharp stones never fit the pilgrim for the steep, rough, exhausting climb up the "hill of difficulty."
~M. Taylor~

It is good for me that I have been afflicted
(Psalms 119:71)

. . . .For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
(Phil 4:11).

Time
Is Fleeting

Your time is far too brief
For cruel act or words that sting,
For worthless grief
At Fortune's slight.
Let your heart sing!
"Twill soon be night.

Your days are far too few
For faulty wish, or deed, that bring
No happiness to you.
Keep your shield of Faith bright,
With Honour ring!
'Twill soon be night.
~Susan Holton~

InHisgripkim's Thoughts:

Despite all the trials and tribulations I have been through, I have not been consumed. Despite all the afflictions I still endure, I am not consumed. Instead, I have consumed my trials and tribulations. I have consumed my afflictions. They have been and are nourishment to my soul. The nourishment has built for me a mountain of unrelenting faith in God.

Today, I look forward to each new day the Lord graciously gives me. I look forward to each breath He blesses me with. Each day and every breath is another chance to experience His love. No greater pleasure than that. I love feeling His love. No greater feeling than that.

I love loving the Lord. I love the way I feel loving our Lord. Holy, Holy, Holy!

Wonderful poems of wisdom and encouragement. Here is another one:

I was reading about some of the people who laughed or were astonished when God answered their prayers or gave them a word that could not possibly come true. I came up with this little poem:

Some Who Laughed

Abraham laughed and said I'm a hundred years old
When God told him that a baby son he would hold
He said why my wife is ninety years old and gray
That is way too funny, her having a child, no way

The words spoken by the Lord tickled Sarah so
To think that in her womb a child would grow
She was way past the normal child bearing age
That chapter in her life was surely a closed page

Pharaoh laughed when Moses said let my children go
Moses believed even though Paraoh's answer was no
Big Goliath heartily laughed at that puny little David kid
But David won with a stone and a slingshot, yes he did

Peter's friends laughed when he appeared at their door
After all he had been bound in chains on the prison floor
I imagine some laughed when Jesus was in the grave
And said to themselves, himself he could not save

But God had other plans for Jesus as on the third day
The angel of the Lord rolled that grave stone away
Who was laughing now when darkness turned to light
Jesus arose from the grave that must have been a sight

Nothing is impossible with God on your side
He can quieten even the most turbulent tide
What impossibilty makes you laugh or smile
Believe God and answers will come after a while

Three Minutes Until Heaven

Somewhere in this wide world in which we live
Someone has only three short minutes to give
A loved one a last hug, a kiss and a smile
Because they have traveled their last mile

Their journey on earth is coming to a fast close
They are through with their triumphs and woes
One hundred eighty seconds to say a goodbye
Until they are with Jesus in their home in the sky

They may be young, middle aged or old and gray
But with closed eyes to the Lord they did pray
It is finished take me to my home so I can rest
I have fought a good fight and did my very best

Three minutes to gaze on the Lord in all his glory
I am sure they are glad they believed the old story
Of how Jesus died on the old rugged cross for them
So they could be forever in heaven with him

. . . .and yet show I unto you a more excellent way
(1 Cor. 12:31)
prayer_requests.jpg

Future Plans

I carefully laid every plan;
The future seemed so bright.
My hopes and dreams they towered high--
I saw no trace of night.

And then at closing of the day
I knelt in usual prayer,
And prayed: "Dear Lord, bless every plan--
All that I hope and dare."

But day by day my plans all failed,
My hopes came tumbling down.
All my ambitions disappeared.
And Failure was my crown.

Perplexed--I could not understand,
Had I not knelt in prayer?
And asked that every plan and hope
Would find a blessing rare?

Then in the stillness of the night,
Out from the shadows dim,
I heard a sweet persuading voice That called me close to Him.

"Why don't you let Me make your plans?
I've trod the path before.
Just leave the future in My hands,
I'll lead thee o'er and o'er."

In shame, I bowed my humble head;
My spirit low was brought,
For I had caught a strange new light,
By His own Spirit taught.

No longer do I pray as once,
"Dear Lord, bless all my plans."
But now I pray: "Lord, plan for me,
the future's in Thy hands."

Dear Jesus:

I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you. I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what part of me that you bring out.

I love you for putting your divine hand into my heaped-up heart, and passing over all the foolish and frivolous and weak things which you cannot help dimly see there, and for drawing out into the light all the beautiful, radiant belongings, that no one else had looked quite far enough to find.

I love you for ignoring the possibilities of the fool and weakling in me, and for laying firm hold on the possibilities of good in me. I love you for closing your eyes to the discords in me, and for adding to the music in me by worshipful listening.

I love you because you are helping me make of the lumber of my life not a tavern but a Temple, and of the words of my every day not a reproach but a song.

I love you because you hav done more than any creed could have done to make me good, and more than any fate could have done to make me happy. You have done it by being yourself. Perhaps that is what being a friend means after all.

For Your Glory -Amen

What, When, Where, Who, Why...Prayer
What answer can I give to those who often say
There is no God, why should I bother to pray
Storms of life come in every shape and form
A smooth sailing through life is surely not the norm

When do answers to prayers come, or do they come at all
Does God really hear my prayers when upon His name I call
I must keep on praying although no answer is in sight
My answer may come today or it may come this very night

Where should I pray, in a public or secret place
Should I be standing upright or should I fall upon my face
I've heard many prayers prayed in a pretty church
I've observed men praying from a lofty perch

Who should I pray to, Jesus is the only one
Who died on the cross, He is God's only son
I must pray with power like the holy men of old
I in my time of need, I must be very bold

Why should I continue to pray, I must ask
Often my prayer time is such a difficult task
Interruptions come and doubt creeps in my head
My heart believes in Jesus, I know that He is not dead

The words of this poem were gleaned from many years
Of praying to Jesus, who has often wiped my tears
I've prayed many prayers during the past many days
I know that God hears and answers, in many ways

Without Jesus, I would have no prayers and no hope
Of a better day coming, I must hold on to the rope
The Word of God bids us to pray without ceasing
The prayers of God's children to Him are very pleasing

His Eye Is On The Sparrow

attachment.php

Fear ye not therefore, ye are more value than many sparrows (Matt. 10:31)
I'm only a little Sparrow
A bird of low degree
My life is of little value
But the dear Lord cares for me.
I know there are many sparrows--
All over the world they are found,
But our Heavenly Father knoweth
When just one falls to the ground.
Tho small we're never forgotten;
Tho weak we're never afraid;
For we knoweth the Lord keepeth
The life of creatures he made.
I fold my wings at nightfall,
Wherever I happen to be;
For the Father is always watching,
no harm can happen to me.
I am only a little sparrow,
a bird of low degree;
But I knoweth the Father loves me;
Does thou knoweth His love for thee?

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.
(Ps. 23:4)

He Knoweth The Way

Through the wearisome hours of a sorrowful night
I have prayed for the morning to break;
Till there came-not the morn-but this broad beam of light:
He knoweth the way that I take.
He knoweth the way! and the way is His own,
And I take it with Him--not alone, not alone!

And so, as I journey through darkness and light
Till the valley's dark shades overtake,
And the city of rest lifts its towers on my sight,
He knoweth the way that I take.
He knoweth the way! and the way is His own,
And I take it with Him--not alone, not alone!

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God:
(Ps 42:5)

Hope

Hope sings to me a cheerful song -
The way may seem both dark and long.
But days are passing one by one,
And all is glory farther on.

And HOPE has wings as well as song.
And when she spreads her pinions strong,
My thoughts soar up and dwell upon
the heavenly glory farther on.

And HOPE has eyes that pierce the gloom;
She looks beyond death and the tomb,
And thrills as though aready shone
The deathless glory farther on.

Hope, blessed hope, abide with me,
Still sing thy cheerful melody,
Till, clouds and tears for ever gone,
I reach the glory farther on.

. . .But by love serve one another
(Gal. 5:13)

For Others

Lord, help me to live from day to day
In such a self-forgetful way.
that even when I kneel to pray,
My prayer shall be for OTHERS.

Help me in all the work I do
to ever be sincere and true,
And know that all I'd do for You,
Must needs be done for OTHERS.

And when my work on earth is done,
And my new work in Heaven's begun,
May I forget the crown I've won,
While thinking still of OTHERS.

Others, Lord, yes others
Let this my motto be.
Help me to live for others,
That I may live like Thee.

Thy Will

To know Thy will, Lord of the seeking mind,
To learn Thy way for me, Thy purpose kind,
Thy path to follow and Thy guide find--
For this I pray.

To do Thy will Lord of the eager soul,
To bring my restlessness 'neath Thy control,
To give Thee, not a part, but all--the whole--
For this I pray,
To love Thy will, Lord of the ardent heart,
To bid all selfishness, all sloth depart,
To share with gladness all Thou dost and art--
For this I pray.
