I wanted to start on a little series — a meditation on prayers in the Bible, starting with the chief prayer, the Lord’s Prayer:

The Lord’s Prayer is rich, comforting, and practical. Through it, our Lord teaches us that we are children of God, co-heirs with Christ. And He shows us what we may pray for and what is His good pleasure to give us. It’s a prayer for our own good and for all who believe in Jesus.

The Holy Spirit has graciously given us Psalms to sing and meditate on, to discern Scripture and use in prayer, praise, and lament. In Psalm 4:1, our Lord teaches us to call on Him in our distress, for He is the God of our righteousness, our friend and helper, manifest in Christ.

Jesus teaches us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Consider the great love of Christ, who from the cross interceded for those who rejected Him, mocked Him, and were putting Him to death. He prayed: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
