Actually, the term emo has been around since at least the mid-90s. Granted, it was rather underground... but around none the less.

exactly. I guess no one knows about the Juliana Theory anymore, but even at that Further Seems Forever has been around quiet some time and ppl still know who they are. In my area emo has been popular for at least the last 4 or 5 years. It's only in the last two years it infected more hardcore like music producing screamo, but hey, that's the beauty of the music world it's ever-change.

Don't just ride a few waves and claim you've conquered the whole ocean. ...it doesn't work like that.

ok, I'm TOTALLY not trying to come off like a snobbie elitist jerk or anything, but that term does not belong to the likes of Juliana Theory or FSF. If you want to know where 'emo' really started, check out Embrace, Fugazi, Endpoint, Empathy, and others I'm sure Theory could name off as well. THOSE bands were emo. The stuff you hear today is shoe-gazin' indie rock.

the juliana theory formed in '97.

I guess Underoath, Silverstein seems somewhat screamo (but not Christian)

Oh yeah, and Thursday is teh xhardcorex :p
Don't mean to be rude but I don't think screamo sounds anything like hardcore.

haha, is that in response to me? i never said thursday is at all hardcore. i was questioning if they count as "screamo." if i'm allowed to be technically, hardcore & emo are close cousins. not the "emo" or "screamo" that kids talk about these days, but the stuff like jeff-moreinsorrow mentioned, like fugazi, etc.

anyway, i don't listen to much with screaming at all, but when i bother, i'd rather listen to hardcore than watered down (you know what). i like the melodic side of hardcore, like old hopesfall, in reverent fear, strongarm, flattery leads to ruin, saved by grace, etc.

(i should really just get over myself!)

Now I'm not sure whose my respone was to, but I've seen people put down bands like thursday as hardcore.
You may be right about hardcore and emo being related, but I haven't heard much real emo. Although real hardcore sounds more like 80's punk (I believe).

Old Hopesfall hardcore? I gotta check it out then, I really like Hopesfall

No I am not in the screaming mood! THanx to God's !peace

haha. That's cute. There are alot of different reason for screaming though... not always bad either, I suppose that's more thought to be shouting though...but they're basically the same thing. People scream & cheer for something or someone they admire & want to encourage. There can also be screams of stellar surprise when something amazingly good happens. ...but even at all that goodness, there are days when I just feel like driving out on some country roads and screaming. I don't think that's bad thing either.

I do believe this is a big reason the hard[er] Christian music scene bands are misunderstood and even disliked. ...It took me a while to caught on, but when the light bulb finally went off, I've never ever seen harder music [hardcore especially] the same. It takes an amazing passion to be able to sing and scream all in humble attitude, which is what I've seen from so many of the Christian bands who play screamo, hardcore, metal, hard rock. From my view it's a beautiful thing and I'm really super stoked about screamo [no matter how uncool that makes me] cuz it has such a great blend of sing & screaming along with expressive music. ...at least when it's done well.

So are we just talking about it the base of it now and no else has any good band names? I could use a few more... even if they're funny-try-too-hard local bands ...I always get a kick out of those too.
