I was thinking of going into edinburgh sometime on sat, but it could be crazily busy with the festival so not sure...

Festival is the best time to visit Edinburgh!
Busy, yes, but not so bad that anyone has ever been killed in a stampede :)

There is an interesting exhibition on Islam at the Central Mosque, if you want to sort the facts from the myths:

There is also a kitchen adjacent to the mosque which provides good food at very reasonable prices.

The big firework concert to end the festival is at 9pm on Sunday 3rd September.
There are also fireworks at midnight each Saturday night at the end of the Tattoo.
This Sunday (13th) is Fringe Sunday in The Meadows, with hundreds of free-to-view performances (although they pass the hat round at the end, so payment is a matter of conscience ;) ) - worth seeing if you see nothing else!

I was at the festival on saturday and just hung out, I forgot how busy the place was when the festival was in full swing! Went to the film festival thing at the bottom of the Mound where they had the free open-air cinemam and were showing Diamonds are Forever :D

Just been watching a programme about the new party splitting off from the Scottish Socialist Party, 'Solidarity'.
There seems to be some critical flaw in socialist parties - whenever they reach any significant level of popular support, they divide like amoebas.
On the positive side, at least this division has been over more interesting topics than the right of nations to self-determination, or the theory of surplus value.

What do people think of these parties?
Would you buy a used car from Colin Fox?
Or accept Tommy Sheridan's invitation to see his collection of proletarian art?
