Sorry guys!

I did not mean to suggest backwardness at all. Forgive me if that is what it sounded like, I am sorry.

It is just the haggis food is sheep and for the most part here there is not a lot of sheep or lamb products in the stores. As a matter of fact, it may have to be special ordered as I have never seen it in the market. Like Goose. They usually do not have that. Sometimes duck but not often where I am anyway-- so I wondered if your country had a bounty of chickens and cows.

Did not mean to suggest backward, just different places have different things.

No, I figured your place is rich in history and a feeling of community which sometimes we lack in the states. Here you can see many cities with very NEW buildings. No personality or maturity, IMO. I would like to walk where people have walked and lived -- and gazed at the stars for centuries. I think it would have a truly deep connecting feeling with the past.

I hope progress has not ruined the gorgeous history of your land. I can live without McDonalds.

Do you have any fruits that are just from your region? Any dishes perhaps I can try to make here?

I told you I eat a lot of fresh foods as I like it for a healthy heart etc. Here in the states, some areas do not have stores that sell a large variety of fruits. My mother-in-law has a heart problem and I looked up a bunch of good things for her to eat. She has never even heard of a papaya. I thought she was mistaken and called the stores in her state to get her a variety of fresh holistic foods... She was correct. The markets did not sell berries, papaya, cherries, kiwis, etc. The market in her home in Iowa only carried cantaloupe, apples and oranges.

She also needs low salt foods and I asked if they had Weight Watchers brand salad dressing and the like, and they did not carry it. So, here it depends on which state you visit.

Here is a quesstion, just for fun, what do you all usually have for a breakfast?

Here it can be a muffin

Cereal

Eggs and toast

Omelet

And things like that...

I have always thought a European breakfast as a roll and fruit with juice.

I am just interested to get a feel for the country.

So far, it seems the people are very warm. The landside is fabulous, they all like haggis, and even though it is unattractive, it tastes great.... How am I doing?

But'n'ben

Well he does seem mischievous! SMILE! I am still very glad you found all of that for me! Thank you so much!

Hi Anna, my reply was tounge in cheek although I forgot to add the appropriate smilie like so :p

Here's some useful links

Hope these are useful. How much your 3/4 bedroom house would cost would depend where you want to buy. Two years ago parents of a friend of mine sold their 4 bedroom house in Jordanhill (a good area of Glasgow) for over £300,000.I guess that's approx $550,000.

"Gardeloo!"?

"haud yer haun"?

Explain please?

I would love to drive somewhere and be held up by sheep rather than 10 million maniac drivers in Atlanta or LA --

In all I can see, your country maybe a bit more expensive to live in than here. The houses there are wild in price -- out of my range. How do people buy one? You all must be weathier than we are!

Well in the 14th century in edinburgh, people of course didn't have toilets and the houses could reach 14 storeys high. Since the buildings were so flimsy that's quite scary...! So, the collected the, er, human waste in buckets and just threw in out the window into the street below.

Gardeyloo! is the Scottish version of the french "Gardez l'eau" - "Watch out for the water"

HAUD YER HAUN! was the return screech which meant "Hold your hand (hold on one second) while they person/people in the street would jump into a doorway and miss the 'shower' from above.

Of course this doesnt happen nowadays but it's still part of the fascinating history of olf edinburgh!

There are amusing stories in diaries from the period of French visitors walking through the streets and hearing someone shouting at them in French. Feeling welcome they would look up to greet who was calling to them and get a nasty surprise! hehehe

Thank GOD! I thought I may have insulted you!

But'n'ben "Anna, I wasn't meaning you when I said that people were claiming Scotland was backward."

Again! That makes me feel better, I thought perhaps I came across like a jerk! So, I am glad you were just saying it -- not thinking that I said it.

((((hugs))))

Thanks for the education about the sayings! How adorable -- adorable unless you got a bucket of "it" on ya, I imagine!

Depends where you buy, I gave an example of a popular residential area in Glasgow. There are cheaper areas to buy, just not quite as leafy and tranquil.

Dear friends of Scotland-
Pls pray for my parents and Uncle Charely. They were in Punta Gorda Florida where the last hurricane hit. My Uncle C came down to help them "dig out".

Now they are evacuationg again -- in less than a month. The state is flooded with evacuees stuck on the hiway and the stations are running out of gas. The areas in Georgia, across the border in saftey, are filled up both at the hotels and RV parks.

I was able, after many calls, to get them a spot for their RV. But my Uncle will be driving ALONE back to Jersey and probably will have to sleep in his car. He is in his 70's and can use prayer for protection as well.

Please pray with us for the poor people in Florida. Thank you.

Thanks for your prayers! The huuricane lost some of its intensity and went from 145 mph to 115mph then down to around 70mph

But the storm moved so slow it just kept pounding the homes in its path. Unfortunately Punta Gorda (parents home) was again injured.

Praise God my parents got out and are safe as well as my Uncle. They are saying two different reports on TV -- 4 million and 6 million people have NO power.

Thanks again for your prayers --- Hurricane Ivan is right behind Frances, believing that God just wipes out the storm.

Thanks again you wonderful wonderful Scots!

God is great but so are the believers in Scotland!

Another hurricane is headed to Florida it all but wiped out the poor island of Graneda and is heading to Jamaca, then Cuba then Florida and/or the pan handle states. This will be the third one in less than a month. Can you say "nightmare?"

Those poor people in Florida are worn out. My parents motor coach surrvived Charlie as they were in Georgia, but their home did not. Anyway, they came up to escape hurricane Francis and met this poor old man who LOST everything. The US does a horrible job in providing health care for its own citizens and this old man was paying out the nose for meds etc., so he did not pay for hurricane insurance as it was around $600.00 (about 730 pounds per month) a month or something steep... and he needed the money for healthcare Well, he is now living in his car.

In your 70's you do not have time to make up a life's worth of income. So sad.

My parents are rushing to their crippled home between hurricanes to see if they can salvage anymore of their belongings before the third one hits....

We have been talking to the insurance companies and they appear to be trying to RIP my parents (and probably all the old people off) yet, in the middle of the WORST being brought out in people the best is coming out in the good people.

One man drove around and from his old truck handed out bags of ice to the very HOT elderly folks without electric. He paid for it himself and by the looks of his truck he was NOT a wealthy man.

Other people were making sandwiches bought with their own money, and driving into the neighborhoods feeding people without provisons. People came in from surrounding states with those large van like vehicles where they opoen up a side of it and handed out bins of hot or cold meals. The CHURCHES have been marvelous in that they are setting up tents and tarps and serving meals to people who have no transportaion. One church had water and is letting people shower there.

Praise God for GOOD people everywhere.

So, we can use some more prayers! Thanks!

I told my Dad of my new cyber friends in Scotland and he was pleased to hear of you all. They thank you for your prayers. It is so sad, they are always crying. My step mother will just rush to the bathroom (I think you call it a water closet) to cry and my Dad will be in the middle of a sentence and just stop as he chokes back the tears (trying to stay "manly" as he sees it)

They are older, sick, and now homeless except for their motor coach. We are trying to get then into a community in Nevada. I think all that happens there are battles with a snake or a spider here and there.

Thanks for all your prayers and good thoughts -- they are being felt and received around the world.
