A brief aside

But'n'ben I sent you a PM. Thanks!
You are so sweet! It is wonderful to be able to talk to people from all around the world isn't it?

Thanks again for your help!

Sending you "blessings" and a hug (((But'n'ben)))

Oh, what does the song mean? I do not understand it all...

What is a Lit Nich whatever? Do you know?

Ya know, I forgot this is where I was speaking to you fine people or I would have been back sooner.

In school I had to do a report on a country and I did mine on Scotland. I was so intrigued by all the castles and stuff.. Gorgeous country. Is it cold there? I forget the temperature range.

My hubs and I have been talking about living somewhere else. My Uncle was from Scotland, my Aunt & Dad from Ireland... So I have always been interested...

The song is quite a cheeky one.

Jist a wee doch an doris (just a litle nip of whiskey)
Jist a wee yin that's a (just a small one that's all)
Jist a wee doch an doris (as above)
afore ye gang awa' (before you go home)

There's a wee wifey waiting (your wife's waiting for you)
at a wee but n ben (at the door of your little croft house)
If you can say it's a braw bricht moon licht nicht (if you can say its a nice bright moon lit night)
then yer awricht ye ken! (then you're alright you know. ie you're wife'll never know your drunk if you can say the above line about the moon!)

Scotland isn't too bad for weather. Depends where you go. The highlands can be pretty extreme but where I live (central scotland) we have it pretty warm in summer and a decent (but not too much) amount of snow in winter. Can't complain.

Thanks for the info about Scotland. I lived in California for awhile when I was trying to break into film writing. (Never did) Then there were riots where the city was burning and it was so horrible, I decided I could "NOT make it" anywhere.

So, we moved to the state of Georgia. Where I continued to write and not make it. (smile) So far, I have not made it with several screenplays and a couple books... They all sit under my bed collecting dust. LOL :D

In the meantime, I am discussed with the Untied States. We got health care through our jobs and now the companies are discontinuing it. If I paid for my own health care it cost me my ENTIRE salary to pay for our health care and my hubs needed medication. The ENTIRE amount, no money left for anything else. So, we had to stop our coverage.

Since we stopped coverage, I have had two medical emergencies.
That took all our savings!!! Then, there are lay offs everywhere and very few job openings -- and of course it is for stuff I cannot do like arcitectural engineer... I cannot do that...

So, the jobs, the no health care, the involvement with the war, the crime EVERYWHERE, all kinds of stuff makes me want to find a better place to live.

We have been looking at Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Scotland and Ireland.

WE really know nothing about these countries except the people always seem nice, and the report I did on Scotland as a child, I recall how gorgeous it was/is. It seemed like everyone lived in castles -- I know that cannot be true -- but those were all the pictures I had! And all the stories by my Uncle of Scotland and my Aunt and Dad about Ireland.

NOW
Oh my gosh! My uncle was singing about getting drunk to me? That kinda ruins the "sweet" old man image.

Thank you for writing the meaning -- is that considered a children's song? They must drink awfully young in Europe!
(smile, chuckle) :sorry:

Questions
What is this hagus?

Are the people okay with Americans? We are not real popular around the world -- but my hubs and I are very nice.

We have 6 dogs we rescued when people deserted them. If we came would they have to be quarintened for 6 months?

Are there jobs?

Also, we could listen to your accent all day long -- it is so adorable. ;)

Lol, I'm counting on my accent to get me places when I come to the States :p

Jobs in what sector?

I'm not sure about the quarenteen, but I'd guess so.

Anywhere you go people that get to know you will like you, and people that can't look past stereotypes in relationships aren't really worth forming relationships with in the first place. We're generally an accepting culture.

Haggis is a traditional meal, it's basically sheeps insides mushed together and bound in the intestine, it's actually lovely  Doesn't sound appetising, I know, but it really is nice!

Okay then...

I will skip the haggis, sorry maybe it is the mush in the intestines that made it so appealing.... NOT! … Sorry… Well, maybe, I will try a bite. :( You all think it is good?

I eat a lot of healthy foods. In the morning we have a fruit salad. Blackberries, blueberries, cherries, raspberries, papaya, watermelon, strawberries with a drizzle of maple syrup and a t-spoon of chopped almonds.

We do not use salt. We usually have a vegetable salad a day, with bean sprouts, zucchini, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, etc.

Then dinner varies -- we do a lot of shish kabobs in the summer.

My hubs is a commercial property manager he used to make a good living but since this recession/depression the salaries are about 50% to 60% less than it was. HE was making about $80,000.00 a year but now the same job is going for about $35,000.00 A substantial loss.****

I do a few things, I am a dog groomer, an administrative assistant (mostly in legal areas) And a fab writer that just gets over looked! So, I could work retail, in an office, or write things that make people say, "that was really good, don't know why it is not published."

Yes, your accent will charm the people in the states. We have a thing for accents! ;)

*****
$80,000.00 a year is like $44.63624 pound

To

$35,000.00 a year is like $19.52836 pound

lol! Of course we have all those things! You can get all the foods you have over there, well, the majority! That question scares me! lol! We were eating them centuries before your country was even born! :p

He'd make +£20,000 for sure, I'm certain of that. The property market is still growing and house prices are still rising and rising :( <(Not good for me!)

Yay for my accent :D

Anna, it's not really a kids song. Hary lauder was famed for his mischeviousness and sense of humour. Kind of an older Billy Connoly (though not as crude) and his songs were usually quite cheeky!

If you do visit, Scotland isn't as backward as some would have you believe. We have McD's and Burger King and every big name you can think of. Our cities are a mix of ancient (edinburgh old town. Dating from 13th c VISIT HERE IF YOU COME TO SCOTLAND!) to victorian (edinburgh New Town, dating 1800s) to very modern. The highlands are much more laid back than the central belt. The central belt is the area ranging from Glasgow in the west all the way across to Edinburgh on the east coast. This is where you'll find modernity. For everything laid back, head north.

Oh, and haggis is great! Don't be put off by the look of it. A lot of people brainwash themselves into thinking it'll be disgusting because it doesn't look nice, but most Scots love it. It used to be made in a sheeps intestine but food laws nowadays don't really allow that so it's just mutton, spices and oats in a bag. No intestines.

There are some of us who don't actually see these things as a sign of progress however.

Yes we have chicken, hamburgers and steaks (Aberdeen Angus was named after the city, not the other way round) and salad too and raspberries! Yes we have an capital based economy!!
