  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

All I'm longing for right now is a deep fried Mars bar. Though, to be fair, I can't see one.

Not to divert the topic too far, but I consider the concept of a deep fried Mars bar to be disgusting. And not only do I like Mars bars, but I live in Texas!

Sheesh! Next thing you know people will be deep frying Twinkies. ;)

Starting things off...
...................ah well well probably never udnerstand it
God is outside of time, in him/her/it time does not exist.
Even the cosmologists accept that before the big bang there was/is no time.

Some famous aetheist philosophers have used the reason that " the universe just is and always has been" as a reasoned argument for how things are...Bertrand Russell for example.
If it is acceptable to use this argument for the univers just being...than why is it not acceptable for it to apply to God, or creator, or big bang maybe.

Who lit the fuse for this big bang?

It is my opinion that the biggest reason that atheists and evolutionists refuse to acknowledge God is that they do not want to answer to anybody. It is very convenient to think that way because if evolution were true, who would be the ultimate authority in the universe (that we know of)? We would be. Nobody to answer to, no rules to follow. So my question is this: Why are atheists so afraid of a divine authority?

Answer: they aren´t. Your opinion is just that - your opinion. It is not real.

Congrats, you managed to judge the majority of christians as non believers and break a forum rule all in a paragraph.

I would recomend actually learning about things before talking about them. The theory of evolution never says god could not have used it to great, and plenty of christians believe he did.

To answer your question (if it was actually an honest question and not a sad attempt at an insult), I as an atheist am not afraid of divine authority, I just don't believe that god exists. So a question to you, why are you so afraid of the divine authority of odin?

You're exactly right, your "majority" of christians who believe that God used evolution to get us here are sadly mistaken, and are doing their faith no favors.

Think about this one:
God does not believe in atheists.

Think about this one - THINK ABOUT IT. Ponder it in your mind, consider it carefully.

Argument: Christians are only Christians because they are unable to decide for their own. They cannot live without the crouch of religion. They need to be constantly told what to do, because they are fundamentaly unable to make personal and moral decisions.
So a question to you: why can´t you accept your own responsibility?

Do you recognize yourself in this argument? Do you think this is a valid position and a valid question?

Or is it possible that this argument misrepresents the way Christians think and feel in the same way as your argument misrepresented Atheists?

prove his opinion is not real.

A try for clarification: his opinion does not fit to reality. (Sorry, I might be missing the correct terms here. Would you understand if I told you in German?)

That's a nice opinion. It's complete rubbish, but it's very nice for you to have. Makes it nice and easy for you to categorise everyone who doesn't agree with you. Of course, I'm not sure how you can hold an opinion that is demonstrably false, but that's up to you. I think I'll start to hold the opinion that christians are all wimps who 'need' to have someone to look up to because they can't take the responsibility for their own life. It's a false opinion, of course, which bears no relation to reality, but I can certainly hold it if I want to - and it's on a par with your opinion.

And basing questions such as "why are atheists so afraid of a divine authority?" on a demonstrably false opinion goes beyond having that opinion well into being stupid.

so, I guess its ok to judge christians, afterall, what did jesus say about judging others? What do the forum rules say about calling christians non christians?

I Love that line. Your god must be ignorant than :D :D :D. You need to change "atheist" to "atheism" to make it better. God must believe in atheists because they exist, but what he doesn't believe in is atheism.
and besides, this is science, that is apologetics, please take it there to be laughed at. :)

The vast majority of people in this country are Christians. I felt that I owed it to them to learn as much as I could about their faith.

Also I enjoy debate and learning from people and helping other's learn.

Because this is an open forum that allows all in. Because I am allowed in here, I am here to learn and to teach, also, oddly enough to try and protect christianity from things that can damage it, like creationism. On a side note, did you take a look at the thread I posted?

Martin: God does not believe in (as is, is a believer of) atheism. But it still should be said that God would believe atheism existed. However to say god doesn't believe in atheists is either a slight to atheists (calling them liars) or calling god ignorant.
Edit to add: god would not be a believer of atheism on our level (like when he was supposably jesus) but I guess on his level, he would be a believer in strong atheism.
