• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Every fasting health benefit newly discovered by science has been touted by the natural health community for millennia.

Harvard study uncovers why fasting can lead to a longer and healthier life

Welcome to the health club.

I have recently begun getting into the topic of prolonged full fasting. I have done a couple 3-day full fasts, and I do fairly frequent 24-hour full fasts, and I typically try to maintain a 16-8 routine on normal days. I want to build up to doing a 5-day, and then build up to doing a couple weeks.

How did your first three day fast go?

When I did my first one antihistamine drugs that I had taken years before came out through my sinuses. It felt like a boxer worked over my face, but when I broke the fast I felt better than I ever had in my life. I also got rid of the accumulated crud from 15 years of smoking. Since then fasts are pretty easy, although I have some other meds to 'look forward to' if I do an extended fast.

The first day was rough, and I was always mindful of my hunger. I also got a wicked headache at the end of the day. The second day was a lot easier - I got a headache which was not as bad as the one the day prior, and the hunger came in manageable waves. The third day was the toughest in terms of hunger, and I was more than ready to eat at the end of it. I felt weak and hungry all day. No headache.

Did you drink any water? I had that weakness as well my first long fast but since then no problem. No problem with hunger either. Are you familiar with Paul C. Bragg's book, "The Miracle of Fasting"? Very inspiring.

I made sure to drink plenty of water. I would even put a little bit of salt into my water.

I am not familiar with "The Miracle of Fasting". I'll look into that one.

Ouch! Excess salt is one of the things to rid your body of.
