  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Not sure if in hostility, but certainly in misunderstanding of the text.

And not just today's science, but also today's views, mindset, culture or vocabulary.

God created science as a vehicle to unveil His creation. Should be a perfect relationship for the modern mind however, some can not connect the dots as well as others. Blessings

You can't inject science into the bible. One is a religious book concerned with spiritual truths; the other is a systematic approach to understanding and using the physical world we inhabit. I don't seek out a chemist for learning to pray and I don't research the bible to fix my truck or get guidance for the odd looking mole on my back.

It is this category mistake that gives rise to hostility, and that hostility is usually on the side of religious fundamentalists.

Not so sure about hostility (could be, depends on the person) but injecting today's science into the Bible. That will change how people see verses in the Bible. And will inject interpretation lies into The Bible.

You mean the modern 'science' called Young Earth Creationistic Science?

Probably, yes. Many people will be offended to hear someone claim their YEC theory is the text.

Because we read Genesis chapter 1, and know the actual words are so much better, so much more moving and wonderful than YEC.

Do you know why?

Because you failed Greek History 101 and have had a vendetta against Ancient Greece since?

and what Bible passage I support it with?

It's probably going to be massively out of context, but I do not know. Cannot remember.

Today's science shows that the King James Bible contains the full history of humanity, except the followers of the book have created a religious myth around God's revelation, in contradiction of His commandments, which obscures that fact.

For one example, the global flood, which is shown in the archaeological and geological record to have occurred near the end of the ice age. It occurred as a result of a comet hitting the North American ice cap, causing a catastrophic release of water over what is now called the western USA, which raised global ocean level permanently by 100+ metres in a very short period of time, coupled with a month of torrential rainfall causing temporary flooding in upland areas, wiping out most people on earth at the time. Noah, as described in Genesis, was outside of sight of land for 150 days, once the ocean rose up to meet him, and he landed in Armenia when it was over. The north western coast of the Black Sea was expanded dramatically at the end of the ice age. He clearly, by the words of Genesis, lived near the former coastline of the Black Sea, which is now underwater. He was swept to the north coast of Armenia by the floodwaters. It is stated already in truth, but hidden behind religious interpretation.
Empathy, empathy, empathy. Understand Christ. What did he do?

Genesis states that Noah saw the whole world be submerged, from his perspective. He spent 150 days in the middle of the Black Sea after it expanded 100 miles west in a very short and dramatic period of time. Everything he ever knew collapsed around him in rain and rising water and he, his family and his livestock sat alone in open water, with nothing on the horizon for months.

There is nothing about him collecting two of every animal on the globe and cramming it into his boat. It says he took everything he could pack from his local environment, including the livestock and the pets. There is no mention of the waters rising 15 cubits above the peak of Everest and encasing the entire world at once. There is no mention of a giant dome being split open and pouring the water down like a faucet.
The Pharisees' lists of genealogies, which are exposed as dubious in the New Testament, have a suggestion at 4500bc as the date of the flood. That prevents many Christians from looking at the flood, because in truth it was 12,600bc.

Religion is obscuring God's revelation, in contradiction of the first three commandments.

Hmm .. How could that ever be demonstrated?
Not a particularly strong opening statement there ..
