That is the danger in the Fundamentalist/creationist view of creation. SO MANY funamentalists/evangelicals leave their bubbles, go off to college and take a beginner's course to geology/biology etc... and realize that it is absurd to think that the world has only existed for 6000 years (??). Because they are told that their fatih hinges on how literally they take the Scriptures, they forced into illogical beliefs that, when challenged, either forces them to stick their head in the sand or, sadly, give up the faith (or so they feel).

But their disagreement doesn't mean that they're right. This may not be an argument that we'll ever win, but all you can do is present people with the information, and let them be. Some don't want to be convinced. Some would rather hide behind their Bible. Some think that failing a literal account of Genesis, as you pointed out, invalidates the rest of the Bible. The fact is that it does not.

People can take that or leave it, but if they really thought it through and had open hearts, they'd see there's no contradiction.

I've been agreeing with you. My point was that it is hard to win converts to Christianity when you have Creationists telling non-Christians that either Genesis is literal or the Bible cannot be trusted. It's like handing a non-Christian the gun and the ammo that they're going to use against you!
