Oh! I've watched Star Trek of course, but I never knew what Klingons believed- what is that whole "wating for Kahless" thing about?

the second coming of Kahless thing...

http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/library/aliens/article/70638.html

above link about the klingons. its hard to describe. its all about honor etc - ever see the voyager episode where Torres gets put on the "Barge of the dead"?. that one explains a lot...

What's the most interesting religion from science fiction?

My personal favorite has to be from the 'Phule's Company' Series, where they meet 'Rev' that preaches the church of "The King."

It's Elvis worship. ^_^

I would have to agree with you.....and you are the FIRST person I've seen refer to Robert Asprin's "Phule's Company" which I find to be the FUNNIEST sci-fi series ever! I used to like the Myth series best, but then I got into the Phule's series and it rocks!!!

Well, outside of the necro-nuts, whatever they were called, and argueably the Jedi I don't know of any other strict sci-fi stories that have "religions".

Oh, no, wait, HHGTTG, there's the little fellows with 50 armpits that believe the universe was sneezed out of a being called the Great Green Arckleseezure.

Oh, heck, I just remembered in one of the book sequals to Blade Runner (not Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?), there was a group that thought God (or the "Eye of Suffering") now considered replicants to be God's chosen people, or something, the books didn't talk about it much.

And the religion(s) from Stargate, but that's based on actual religion...

THe Man Kzin wars- The Kzinti (warlike felinoid species) believe that God, or the greatest God is a human because Humans keep winning the wars that are started by the Kzin... so eventually a small cult forms over time that use peoples faces strethed over masks so that they can pray to the Human god(or at least trick him into granteing them victory against the humans).

The Uplift series by david brin- some more extreme religious fanatics believe earth must be crucified in similitude of Christ, to wash the burden of sin of all the Galactic civilizations.

The hitchhikers Guide toi the Galaxy- a race believes the universe came into being when God sneezed and so fear the coming of the great white hanky.

Interesting fact:

At my local bookstore the "Scientology" section is tucked in right next to the "Cults and Satanism" section.

But as for being on topic and all, I'm starting to get interested in the religion of the Space Marines in Warhammer 40k.

cant beat the chaos religions. or the Orks.

and you know about the (adept mechanicus - is it?) techmarines - and what they are really worshipping. In fact most of the imperium.
