Around 30 plus years ago a friend of mine and I decided to check out all the SBC seminaries. To the best of my memory we found all but one seminary had been infiltrated with "so called moderated views". The statement “so called” to me equals liberal so that you will understand my thinking.

If my memory serves me correctly

Golden Gate was liberal in both the NT and OT departments
New Orleans was liberal in both the NT and OT departments
Southeastern was liberal in both the NT and OT departments
Midwestern was liberal in both the NT and OT departments
Southern was liberal in the OT and conservative in the NT
Southwestern was conservative in the NT and OT

Remember this was a point in time and this is to the best of my memory. The two that are the clearest are Southern and Southwestern. I recall reading somewhere that Southwestern had some issues too but hopefully some of you will have a more definitive account.

If you have more exact information on this I would love to know.

Anyway the point of this is to say today all SBC seminaries are on board and teaching the Bible as God's inerrant word. No more liberalism. Some of the seminaries now have colleges as well and this is good as long as the colleges and seminaries are staffed with Godly men women who believe the Bible is God's inerrant word.

Now, I am sure some of you may have some insight into the long journey from the time that Judge Pressler and Page Patterson - present president of Southwestern, started the reclaiming of SBC institutions back.

Now concerning the state conventions: Do you know if your state Baptist convention supports any schools that are permitted to teach that the Bible is not completely God's word?

Your right, Modernist does equate to "Liberal."

And all the schools suffer from this in one shape or fashion.

But when I was going through seminary classes, I was fustrated by the content of one teacher. I really had to make myself go to that class. Extremely fustrated, I talked to another deacon and he gave me the best advice. He told me that I must learn to "pick the meat from the bone."

Now I can't say about Southwestern, but I do know that Southeastern and Southern have returned to their roots. Any teacher at that school must sign the 1858 "Abstract of Principles" written by James Petigru Boyce.

It can be found here: Link

by signing this they agree to teach within those guidlines. If they don't, they are subject to termination.

God Bless

Till all are one.

P.S. Did you know that originally, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary was founded just 60 miles from where I live.

My senior pastor went to Southwestern for his masters and at the time, 30 years ago, they had a few liberal teachers. Since then he has heard that they have gone back to strict conservative beliefs.

I am getting my masters through Rockbridge Seminary and while it is non-denominational it is only because the SBC does not support it. It was started by 3 Southern Baptist professors from Southern Baptist Seminaries. It was even started at a Southern Baptist Church. I love it and it prepares you more for the pastoral care part of being a pastor than does traditional seminary. So far I have found no liberal teachings in this seminary. Check it out. http://www.rockbridgeseminary.org

If you do decide to attend let me know by messaging me because I think if I refer people I get some off of my tuition.

I know this probably should not matter, but they are also cheap compared to SBC schools. Always good to know you can get a good education that is financially valuable.

Where have you been for the last 30 years? The conservative resurgence is over and the conservatives won. Johnny Hunt is the SBC president. None of the schools teach the Bible is not the word of God. The people who taught that are long gone.

Well in today's time money matters, and yes it is very affordable.
