  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone know the name of the type of music that is like orchestra, but scary?

i was listening to some radio station the other night and they were playing some crazy scary music, it was like orchestra, chamber and techno all mixed in, like screams and demon sounds effects in the background, pretty cool. anyone know some names?

Zoar is quite eerie (http://www.zoar.com). You can listen to some of their music at their site. Do you play any Silent Hill Games? Any soundtracks from those (they are by Akira Yamaoka, btw) are scary. There are downloads from some of the official SH soundtracks at http://www.silenceisbroken.com . The SH music isn't very orchestral, but still scary.

Scary? I can point you in the right direction. Start with George Crumb's Black Angels: Thirteen Images From the Dark Land for electric string quartet. Mix in Stockhausen's Gruppen and Mixtur, Xenakis' Kraanerg, maybe Ligeti's Atmospheres for starters... Or just go for anything by the avant-chamber-prog groups ART ZOYD or UNIVERS ZERO. An afterthought: Hearing Solar Winds by David Hykes & the Harmonic Choir is some of the most eerily beautiful a capella vocal music I've ever heard...

Not classical, but check out Midnight Syndicate. They have some pretty eerie, atmospheric type stuff. Pretty cool.

You want scary? Check out "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima" by a composer who's last name is Penderecki. I have no idea how to spell is first name.

Krzysztof Penderecki is the man, thanks for reminding me of that piece! Did you ever hear the album he did with Don Cherry, Actions (for free jazz orchestra)? It's pretty amazing...
