i LOVE horror movies, so it is very very hard to actually creep me out. movies like see no evil, the exorcist, the descent, cloverfield, the saw trilogy, anything by george a. romero or dario argento...that's the kind of stuff i live for. to date, there is only ONE movie that has ever disturbed me so much, it made me look away from the screen for a few seconds: dead silence.

Has anyone here ever seen the British nuclear war movie "Threads" 1983? I've watched the first half on YouTube, but stopped just short of the bomb in Sheffield dropping.I am such a baby...:sorry:
I saw Threads wen it was first televised and I was 14.

Scared the heck out of me especially
because the cold war was raging in those days.

Yes!! I was absolutely terrified of nuclear war in those days, and so I refused to acknowledge ANYTHING pertaining to nukes(as if that makes it disappear!). Now, at 38, I can watch stuff and not be nearly as bothered...except Threads! :(

Yes,Threads is an AWESOME movie, also with all the scandals today in the 'body-parts' business,I keep thinking of the old '78 movie 'Coma'!

There are only a few films that actually have gotten under my skin and disturbed me to the point where I was uneasy and/or scared.

The Exorcist did, Audition did, The Thing did, and to an even greater degree so did The Blair Witch Project.

Funny Games disturbed me as well, but it wasn't really scary nor was it meant to be.

Besides the twilight-zone episode about the killer doll 'Talking Tina' that traumatized me against baby dolls, the scariest movie moments for me have been in Rosemary's Baby, Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark,Duel, and the best shark movie ever-Deep Blue Sea(which gave me more jumps than any other film).

You're all wrong. The scariest movie of all time is "The Wizard of Oz". I think more kids have had flying monkey nightmares than any other. :)
You mean Tornado nightmares. I still was scared of tornadoes even after my parents told me it was a fake one in the movie.

I was really disappointed by "The Strangers." The only interesting thing was the idea that it might have been a true story. But that's just it. It was NOT true. It was only "inspired" by true events. So maybe 1% of the film really happened and that's probably stretching it. But every work of fiction has been inspired by true events. (Stephen King was inspired to write fiction by a young murderer who was in the news when he was young.) It's very deceitful to promote a movie that way.

the strangers doesn't really interest me, after reading the synopsis. i like scarier stuff, like see no evil. :p

has anyone ever seen dead silence? that's the one movie where i had to look away from the screen for a few seconds because it was so intense.

i can't remember the name of it, but there's a movie about a house haunted by a malevolent spirit that makes one of the occupants crazy and murder his family, and then years later someone else buys the house and the husband starts going crazy, too...it was supposedly "inspired by true events"...however i guess the "inspired by true events" part meant "we were drunk and thought this was cool".

The Strangers was horrible. I felt bad for having wasted the money. The Happening, however, creeped me out big-time. I don't know why, it just did. Maybe because I have a problem with... well, whatever, it would just spoil the movie for people who didn't see it.

Poltergeist made me HATE clowns from that point on (and made me really leery of looking underneath my bed for anything). I still don't see clowns as anything less than creepy. The movie It didn't help, either. The 3rd Exorcist gave me some twisted nightmares. Now? I don't know that I'd feel the same way.

Unfortunately, I don't think movie makers can do horror anymore. You either have to make it so ungodly-gory or have a pretty decent promotions team to make it even remotely successful. Hitchcock knew what he was doing.
