No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It was the original. I always go for the original first.

But scenes I remember - girl and guy go off to the creek, find the house where the family lives, the guy goes in, leatherface gets him, girl goes in leatherface gets her and puts her on teh meat hook. And the dinner scene...

Yeah that's the one, I was just making sure because it's the only good one.

Well perhaps the movie was over hyped for you, it makes almost every single critics list as one of the top 7 scariest movies ever.
Or perhaps your surroundings were distracting, maybe your set up is weak and the volumne wasn't loud enough.

I do think part of the reason was that it was overhyped, so I had a lot of expectations and it just didn't follow them.
I'm in college, I watch movies on my tiny computer of 12 inch tv. I don't even think what I have counts as a set up

I loooove horror movies. My favorites are A Tale of Two Sisters, The Wickerman, Psycho, Night of the Living Dead (original), 28 Days later, Perfume, The Orphanage, Evil Dead, Dead Alive, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Shining, Black Sheep, Cabin Fever, It, The Omen, Carrie, The Exorcist, Ginger Snaps, The Ring, The Grudge (original), Rosemary's Baby, Village of the Damned.....etc

Yeah hype can kill almost any movie. That's why I try not to watch commercials on movies I want to see, they just build up so much hype.

What you watch horror movies on makes all the difference in the world, especially when it comes to sound.

Horror movies are suppose to be watched with the sound turned up very loud.
TCM reallys heavily on the sound, there are some strange sounds in that movie that will get to you, or atleast that's what they are designed to do.

Keep your eye out for horror movies that are released in the theater.
Like The Strangers coming out at the end of the month.
The theater is usually the best way to watch horror movies, it will make an "ok" horror movie into a decent one because theaters are so loud, the "boo tactics" work best there.
And it will make great movies, unbelievable and nightmare inducing.

The Grudge? seriously? I think I laughed the entire way through the movie because it was so NOT scary! LOL

I thought The Ring was pretty scary though, and Session 9, I saw that a long time ago and I think I remember thinking it was scary.

The Amityville Horror I think was the scariest movie I've ever seen!

I haven't seen The Exorcist

I remember people telling me they thought IT was so scary, but when I finally saw it it was just rediculous!

I couldn't watch The Hills Have Eyes. ew. just plain ew. That was just a sick sick movie.

I thought The Others was pretty darn scary! 28 Days Later was really good, I don't know if it scared me all that much though.

oooooooooooooooooh!!! lol yeah that makes sense. I heard it was pretty scary. I haven't seen it though.

that cracking bone noise was pretty funny in the american version.

Well, Wickerman disturbed me deeply.
Grudge made me crawl into my little brothers bottom bunk and cry like a child.
Ring made me afraid to answer the phone, go near the television during a salt and pepper storm, and made me genuinely afraid of the Ring Room in a nearby haunted mansion.
Descent made me afraid of any night vision scenes in any movie ever made.
Cloverfield made me want to leave the city because a monster was eating the downtown library.
Signs made me afraid to walk at night in the countryside where I grew up.

The scariest I have seen to date (and I am always looking. Need to know how one missed call, and shutter are) has to be the Grudge or the Ring. Of course once you see the Ring it kind of ruins the whole thing because the end is the thing that freaks you out.Is Ringu any different? Scarier I've heard, and since Ring scared me pretty good I'm afraid to even touch Ringu. The Grudge/Ju-on then ranks highest on my list because of the ubiquitous kid and his stupid cat.

I liked Ju-On more than The Grudge and The Ring more than Ringu. Though I always try to watch the original first

(PS I hope you watched the original Wickerman with Christopher Lee, and not the crappy one with Nicholas Cage)

I just watched Session 9. It was good, but not really that scary still. I kept waiting for David Caruso to put on his sunglasses...

The Day After-1983. I was too afraid to watch it when it actually came out, so I waited something like 15 years. I've now seen it several times. The scariest part isn't the bomb dropping, to me, it's the EAS interruption on the main character's car radio warning of the probable attack.
