Silent Hill 2 was very scary, but I rented Fatal Frame for the Xbox, turned of the lights, turned on the surround sound, and was seriously scared. Fatal Frame was the first and only game to make me have a nightmare. I'm glad I rented it so I didn't feel bad when it had to go back.

Scariest game or the most scared I've ever gotten playing a game?

Second place I’d say Ultima Online. You say “huh??” haha well when you got so much on the line as you fight for your life it can really get your heart pumping… hard! ...before they newbiefied the game at least :( ahhh... the memories.

EQ has given me the most frightening experiences. The same with the above but after you sit infront of the screen for a few hours in that 1st person perspective… reality and virtual reality becomes a fine line. It has “the creeps” factor and no reset button to make it mundane. Sudden MOB attacks in the right setting can make your hair stand on end.

“CALLING EVAQ!! Oh NOOO she’s already dead!!! RUUUUNNN!!! RUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!”
LOL

I'm new here.... but the scariest game I've ever played was Half Life... but now I dont play games that much because most games come from the devil... everything dealing with things that would freak you out.. do not come from GOD, do they? But yeah... HLF... one of the scariest games for me.

I don't know that you can say everything that deals with things that would freak you out is not from God. For instance vampires, while God didn't make them per-say, at least not the people vampires we think of. Think of it, vampires are the complete opposite of normal people, they hang upside down, they cannot stand anything to do with God, a.k.a. you can scare them away with crosses, and lots of other symbolic things like that. They originated in my understanding, from someone creating the complete opposite pole from good, though the pulp genre has rather destroyed the "artistic" use of vampires and many other monsters.* I think lots of the other classic monsters have similar origins. For instance the thing about them taking their true form at a full moon, darkness seen in the light. In that way I do see them coming from God, not directly but inspired. Though what continually puzzles me is whether the creators meant to include all the religious symbol...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not critizing your stance, I consider it admerable when one sets standards for themselves.

*Though if you want a good example of "artistic" use of vampires you should watch the film The Addiction, it uses vampires to symbolize man's growing addiction to evil. It's very good.

Playing as a Marine in Aliens versus Predator was quite a harrowing experience, and would probably be the scariest game I have ever played. Theif I and II come close in the paranoia and anxiety they gave to the player.

Undying had some frightening parts, but it definatly was the most disturbing game I've ever played. Which is why I'm upset there's not going to be a sequel.

I completely agree with you. It really does seem like many of these games out now are coming from the devil. Graphic murder, stealing, sex, gore, swearing... that seems to not even be half the horrible things out there filled in games today. And the worst part is...these games are promoting all of these sinful themes!
By far, the scariest game I've ever played is Silent Hill 3. I didn't even half to give a second thought about that one.

Half-Life is the only game that made me jump (friggin Headcrabs).

Once, while I was reading Prey by Michael Crichton, I had a Half-Life flashback (I don't know why), and got all freaked out. You don't really feel the scariness while playing the game, but it's afterwards, when you think about it. Or that is how I percieve it.

Wolfenstein.

Zombies in the catacombs... the sounds of people screaming... hands popping up through the ground right above the fog on the ground...

...I somtimes say a quick prayer before I go into the next room ^_^

Ya know what's crazy? Seeing a Nazi in that game is nice... because they're WAY more friendlier than the zombies.

Games come not from the Devil but from the minds of mortal man. Man seems to have surpassed Satan in all things evil.

Hell is empty, all the Demons are here.

Fatal Frame, hands down. I've played Silent Hill, Half Life, They Hunger, Alone In The Dark 4 (although that one was pretty darn scary at times), Clive Barker's Undying, Dark Fall, none of them come come CLOSE to the pure terror of Fatal Frame. No blood, no gore, no weapons. Just you, a flashlight, a camera, a dark abandoned mansion, and the scariest ghosts you'll ever see. I'm pretty used to scary games, but I had a hard time playing that one for more than an hour at a time.
