  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Curious.. when did you become a deiIst? I thought your icon was different a few months back?

It's kind of the same thing as how my icon a few months back said Republican - but now says Libertarian. I simply took an honest look at how I believe about things and tried to make it more reflective of my *actual* beliefs than how I've always just sort of labeled myself...if that makes any sense.

I was raised Lutheran - and although I had a falling out with the church when I was a kid - I've always thought of myself as "Christian". But - all labels come with certain baggage attached to them. Over the years - I've found myself in tons of discussions where people listen to what I say and ask "How can you say that, and still be a Christian?"

I suppose I could start really trying to become pedantic in the way I choose labels...kind of like "non-nicene blah blah blah" - but I find that most of my attitudes are far more reflective of how Deists approach faith. While I don't necessarily agree with all of their stances - I find myself at least philosophically in agreement with them far more than how "Christianity" is generally approached.

Same thing goes with the political icon. I've always thought of myself as a Republican...but when it comes down to it...my thoughts/leanings are far closer to being a Libertarian than what a "Republican" is. So might as well just put that up as my icon.

Honest question: When is the last time that you told someone to be joyous, and how did that work out?

A couple hours ago. Its on my list for tomorrow. It doesn't say joyous. It says cheerful. Short for Cheerfulness in the face of adversity.

Well, it seems there's at least one guy didn't have a problem with setting the mood. Someone alert Kirk Cameron! ;)

Clearly Pharrel didn't see the memo that explains that's the (cough) "woman's role" to set the tone.

Not seeing why she should be the one to set the entire role of the season =/= being a whiner.

It just means that it's up to both adults to do that.

Why is that OTOH women should know their place as the submissive doormat who must be ruled by that god in human form who is her husband, but OTOH she must lead the husband into happiness. As the head of the home, why isn't the husband setting the standard of happiness?

Well, according to Kirk, he is setting the standard. The standard is that the wife does. :sorry:

That's pretty accurate actually. "You need to make us happy, honey." "If we're not happy it's your fault."

KC - "If I'm happy, it's because of you." "If I'm unhappy, it's because of you." "I have zero accountability for my own happiness."

Oh, so attractive.
I thought I had seen it stated here pretty much unequivocally that we are all responsible for our own happiness? So if anyone is unhappy at Christmas, perhaps they should put on their big boy/girl panties and take a look within, rather than the pointing the finger at anyone else. Just a thought.

Nah, it's so much easier to just blame the woman :)
