What does it mean to be saved? Please explain.
Salvation is described as the mystery of God that is now revealed ( Eph 3:9 ; 6:19 ), a plan conceived before the foundations of the world ( Eph 1:3-14 ), a light for revelation to the Gentiles ( Luke 2:30-32 ), a transition from death to life ( John 5:24 ), a message especially for sinners ( Mark 2:17 ), a gift of grace through faith not of works ( Eph 2:8-9 ), that for which the whole creation groans ( Rom 8:22 ), the revelation of God's righteousness to faith and for faith ( Rom 1:16-17 ), the justification that comes through faith ( Rom 4:22-25 ), reconciliation ( 2 Cor 5:18-19 ), and redemption ( Rom 8:23 ). In response to Nicodemus's statement, salvation is said to be a spiritual birth, a birth from above without which one cannot enter the kingdom ( John 3:1-11 ). Salvation means death to and freedom from sin ( Rom 6 ), a new perspective that transcends the human point of view and participation in a new creation ( Rom 5:16-17 ), peace with God ( Rom 5:1 ), life as adopted children of God's ( Gal 4:4 ), baptism into Christ's death ( Rom 6:4 ), and the reception of the Holy Spirit ( Rom 5 , 8 ).

The New Testament articulates salvation in terms of past, present, and future time. In Christ we were elected before the foundation of the world ( Eph 1:4 ). In hope we were saved ( Rom 8:24 ). Yet the cross is the power of God for those who are being saved ( 1 Cor 1:18 ). Likewise Paul's readers are admonished to work out their salvation with fear and trembling ( Php 2:12 ). And there is yet a salvation that lies waiting to be revealed in the last time ( 1 Peter 1:5 ), a redemption for which we groan inwardly ( Rom 8:23 ). For Paul, the past dimension of salvation is generally conceived as justification, redemption, and reconciliation, while its present dimension is depicted in terms of the Spirit's sanctifying work. Its future dimension is said to be glorification, the culmination of the saving process wherein believers will experience Christ's presence in new and resurrected bodies no longer burdened by the vestiges of sin.

So when a person gets saved, what happens?

They begin their journey of sanctification, lead by the Holy Spirit, which conforms them to the image of Christ here on earth.

What does it mean to be saved? Please explain.

All your sins Past-Present-Future are forgiven & Christ gives you eternal life with Him.

King James Bible Dictionary FORGIV'EN: Pardoned remitted.

We are justified & receive a Full Sin ACQUILTTAL. When a sovereign God judicially pronounces us righteousness. Bases on our faith placed in Christ's FAITHFUL, Finished, redemptive work & resurrection.)

At the moment we truly make the decision to trust Christ we are justified = Judicially declared righteous by a sovereign Creator God = Saved (DONE DEAL). Our salvation is forever secure via receiving the eternal seal of God's indwelling Holy Spirit. We are also SANCTIFIED = set apart for a for an ongoing purpose/work/mission that continues until the day we meet the Lord.

Only God/Jesus truly knows our heart. When our confession & belief in His sin atoning death, burial & resurrection are honest. He (only Christ can) can baptize us with is eternally sealing, indwelling Holy Spirit.

All in a new birth moment/event we become forgiven, justified, sanctified & He is glorified. Amen & amen.

When a person is on this journey of sanctification, what do they do differently than they were doing before the journey?

So you can continue sinning free of punishment?
At the moment we truly make the decision to trust Christ we are justified
How about those raised in a Christian household and spent their entire lives trusting Christ, are those people born saved because they have always trusted Christ?
We are also SANCTIFIED = set apart for a for an ongoing purpose/work/mission that continues until the day we meet the Lord.
Set apart from what?

The post said: set apart for a for an ongoing purpose/work/mission that continues until the day we meet the Lord (See Eph 2:10)

Namely to share the selfless love, grace, mercy found the sin atoning work & resurrection. Of our great God & savior Jesus the Christ.

So if a person is raised in a Christian home, and has always trusted in Christ, does this mean they were always saved?
My link says nothing of the sort.

FYI, that is known in some circles as a legacy "Christian."
God has no grandchildren.

What type of mission are they given, and is everyone who gets saved given such an ongoing mission? Or is it possible for someone to get saved and spend so much time raising their family, that they don't have time for an ongoing mission?

Page 4 under “Recieving Christ involves”

turning to God from self (repentance) and trusting Christ to come into our lives to forgive our sins and to make us what He wants us to be.

Just to agree intellectually that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for our sins is not enough. Nor is it enough to have an emotional experience. We receive Jesus Christ by faith, as an act of the will.

I guess my question is; if a person has always received Christ by faith, was he always saved?

There is always a personal decision required. Some may have made that decision when very young but there was still a watershed moment. Sometimes, people need to revisit that decision as their understanding of personal sin matures.

But in order for a change of heart to happen, that means there was a time in your life when you did not trust Christ. Is't it possible for a person to have been raised in a way to have always trusted Christ for as long as they were capable of understanding?

Why? If a child can grow up trusting their parents from day 1, what's to stop them from trusting Christ?
Jesus answered,
Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit,
he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
