  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Satan Getting Desperate

I wouldn't say that certain industries are being controlled by Satan...

however I am tired of every single movie being a horror movie. It's all about blood, sex, more blood, maybe more sex if the scary monster isn't close yet, more blood, hell, scariness, etc... I don't like being scared at all. I hate action movies because it's all yelling, shooting, sex, blowing stuff up, more yelling and shooting, etc. At least comedies give you a laugh.

They have a point though. It makes it difficult to enjoy cinema when the majority of the options are movies one doesn't want to see. Whatever happened to good horror movies with good plot, good acting, and realistic events (as in not 'hey, we have five minutes before we're killed, what do you want to do?' 'let's get it on!' 'but what will we do for the other three minutes?')

Yeah, it's a good thing. It's a bad thing though that almost every single movie is either action or horror. for every 20 minutes of violence or cursing (I don't mind cursing, just scenes where 20 minutes is devoted to people cursing at each other) there's 5 minutes of almost-porn. Difficult to find a movie that doesn't have that.

That was a summary of most action movies I'd seen. Odd thing is, they're rated PG-13 normally, despite the violence and sexual...ness.

I don't like movies with either. so I tend not to watch movies at all. If I can't look at the screen or watch the movie with my parents wthout feeling awkward, I don't like it.

Oh I agree with you on that. I do think that nearly all new movies, not just horror movies, have very little to no decent plot. They just seemed like they were saying they didnt like horror movies, or actions movies in general, whether they have a good plot or not. Which is fine, but if one doesnt like horror or action movies at all, it only makes sense to not see those movies.

Movies are not getting any worse today than they were years ago. We just think it's getting worse because we only remember the good movies from yesteryears and forget about all the crap.

Alright, but how often does a movie come out today that has the great quality of movies from the past? Are there any new movies that have the feeling of a timeless classic?

Besides, just about any movie that comes out now is a very poorly done remake. The special effects are always top notch, but the originality and deep plots are missing.

It might not be the best example to use. But The Dark Knight was pretty much the tour de force of comic book movies. Pretty much single handedly changed the way movie companies are to expect the quality of a comic book movie to be and had one of the best villain performances of all time with Heath Ledger's Joker.

Off the top of my head I want to say There Will Be Blood was great and No Country For Old Men. Which I still need to see so if anyone call tell me how good it was let me know :)

What movies are you peopl watching? Didn't anyone watch Defiance? Gran Torino? Seven Pounds? Apaloosa? The Hangover (which did have male nudity, but it was freakin hilarious!)? How to Lose Friends and Alienate People? Star Trek? Wolverine? (ok not a great film..I just love Hugh Jackman;)) These are all fairly recent movies that weren't all blood, guts and sex...branch out, I promise there are more movies coming out that aren't all blood, guts and sex than what you're letting on.

I guess...I don't mind horror...I don't react the same way as other people do...I actually watch a lot of horror but in an artistic point of view. I don't think "That is soooo sick/disgusting"...I'm fascinated by the skill it took to make it look like that.
