Yes, it drives me up a wall. Bothers me most when they pick out everything I did wrong and shred me with it. They're fairly sarcastic about it. It's always the same people I hear it from.Does anyone ever get upset when people make sarcastic comments about your writing? Has anyone ever made a sarcastive comment about your writing?
You need to find some kinder readers! When people are just plain mean and unhelpful, no one benefits.Yes, it drives me up a wall. Bothers me most when they pick out everything I did wrong and shred me with it. They're fairly sarcastic about it. It's always the same people I hear it from.
I have two kinds of critics, honest and sweet. The sweet ones tell me I'm spectacular, the honest ones tell me I suck. The honest one's just happen to have more credibility on em!You need to find some kinder readers! When people are just plain mean and unhelpful, no one benefits.
Well, one can be honest while still being kind...I have two kinds of critics, honest and sweet. The sweet ones tell me I'm spectacular, the honest ones tell me I suck. The honest one's just happen to have more credibility on em!![]()
Critique of one's work is the hardest to accept.
You shouldn't take it personally, but use the critique to build upon and improve your work.
I have a friend who always tells me that my work is amazing - and I think every writer should have one or two of those to keep their self-esteem up during editing and getting criticism; I know I need it.Yeah, but blatantly insulting comments disguised as constructive criticism aren't necessary.
PE, you need to find some kinder readers! Not ones that tell you you're amazing, but readers who tell you what you need to improve upon in a direct but tactful way. My family is great for this kind of criticism--they'll read what I write and point out strong areas and weak ones, tell me what I need to do to make the story stronger, and tell me what they like. Except for my sister; she always tells me that whatever I write is incredible.![]()
Hear hear! I'm totally willing to take harsh critisism (sp?) of my work. But when people mock it in anyway, it's really hard to take.I thought the issue was sarcasm versus sincerity. Personally, I feel sincerity, negative or positive, is always to be appreciated.
