And for those that haven't done much study on swordplay, the sword is not only an offensive, but also a defensive weapon. What I'm getting at, is that in drawing a similarity between the sword and the Bible we must remember to use The Word to protect ourselves as well as to fight the enemy.

I think the Timbrel group as we know it in Britain is probably one of those things which is unique to this country (I'm guessing here - I may be wrong).


Our Australian friends who do not rate the effectiveness of the tambourine as part of our armoury may well have never seen a well drilled timbrel brigade in action. It's an impressive sight.

We have timbrels, and in some places they are appreciated. Zimbabwe Salvation Army use them too, or at least the corps we visited while over there was using them.

with the armour of God you should notice that the sowrd is the only 'attack" peice the rest are peices of protection. all we need to do to put it on is to ask God. eg pray it on. we build up and maintain each peice by reading the bible, praying and seeking God.

I believe we are called to continually be wearing the armour! We also need to be continually repairing our armour, because we are constantly being attacked.

Many people I know have suggested that 'putting on the armour' every morning is a good practice to get into. This doesn't mean that they ever remove it, just that a daily reminder that we are constantly at war can be helpful, and when best to remind yourself than first thing in the morning.

Yeh we did that as a cell group last year. I kinda forgot about it as I'm usually tired in the mornings....whoops!......But other people did it and they said it was really effective and a good reminder to themselves.

I'm trying to remember to do it every day, but my memory of late is pretty bad. I'm currently suffering from depression, and a good friend who has been through it suggested very strongly that I try, she said it helped her a lot.

Our Salvationist forefathers had a similer idea a hundred years or so ago. They not only had the spiritual symbolysm of putting on the armour, they also gave it physical expression. It was called the dawn prayer meeting.

kinda like prayer, I've made a habit of praying right before bed, its like natural now I don't even think about it. But I'm still working on starting my days off with prayer, and it's harder to make a habit out of that because I'm always running late in the morning.
But ya, Elmo, I've been fighting depression myself...for years, and I don't care what they say about the chemical imbalences....it's the work of the devil, constantly attacking your weak pionts. This armour thing does sound like like a great idea, I just have to remind myself to make a habit of it in the mornings lol.

Just had a thought. I know sometimes it can look like Salvos have a rather works oriented faith, but I know the hearts of Salvationists- they do it for Jesus, and I pray that when Jesus returns he will find us doing his work like in MAtthew 25.
