Sabbatical?

I can only give advice from the Word and what I see in other. There are several pastors recently who have (retired/or taken a sabattical) from ministry... only to slip into major sin and divorce.

The Bible mentions being in full time ministry until 50, and then be in full time discipleship, raising up the younger generation.

If someone can share with me anywhere in the Word where a sabbatical is a good idea, please share!

Sometimes ministers on sabbatical go out and spend time travelling around other churches and spending time with other ministers who they respect, but may be a distance from their local congregation.

It can be helpful to catch up with the "what else is God doing in other places" that you may not have come across in the busyness of everyday life.

I suppose it's also an extended break to recover from what is usually an exhausting, demanding role; a time to recharge your inner batteries, and take stock of where you are at, and what God is doing in your life, away from the day-to-day responsibility of "pastoring."

Wonder if there's anyone in this section that has been in the pastoral ministry/full time ministry for a long time ie more than 25 years?
Has anyone taken a sabbatical?
Any ideas re what you do during a sabbatical?
Would appreciate some input. Thanks!

i'm only just starting out in 'ordained' ministry, so won't qualify for some years yet, but when I have a sabbatical I want to go and work with the Inuit people in Canada for a few months.

My current Pastor went to Eritrea for his sabbatical and helped set up a bible study school.
