  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You did pray....you just dont know you did, as prayer has little to do with words that leave your mouth. It is sometimes the ones that "try" to pray consciously, that get it wrong.

"And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners"

You might be right. Irritating as it was to see double, I was always confident that it would eventually clear up. Ever heard of Norman Vincent Peale? He was a Methodist minister who wrote a very popular book back in the 50s. "The Power of Positive Thinking" Maybe he was correct. You think a positive mental attitude could be a type of prayer?

Yes, it is one of the keys to true prayer. Without it, it doesnt matter what words come out of your mouth.

"Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he..."

-Therefore, those who think God wont heal, are correct, and those who believe he will, are also correct. And therefore there is no reason to debate it... It will be unto everyone as they believe.

"The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests."

I say the free gift of healing is available....but to those it is offered...will not take it. Therefore it is given to the ones who are just standing on the highways...

Do you pray when your water heater goes out, or do you call a plumber?
I pray. Had a pipe burst in the winter......one of the coldest in history...so many experienced the same issue at the same time. I had no water in the house with a family of five, and an infant...... Called many plumbers, and they all couldnt come within 24hrs. So I Prayed to the one who already knew what i was going through. My pipe was fixed within 3 hours by a man who was not a plumber and who I would of never thought would know anything about plumbing.....and he refused to take payment. And obviously he was not one of the plumbers i called.

But for you, I would suggest calling your plumbers in your time of need and waiting for them. But for those who would enter in....It is not wise to hinder them.

...wait a minute.....did he just try and curse you back with a heart attack?
No, I tried to teach him how to pray, and the effects of prayer for one self and others. Always do unto other as you would have them do unto you....for your own good, not the second party. Me wishing a heart attack on him would be the same as wishing it on myself....so why would I do that? And why would he?

I will both pray and go to a doctor. Why not merely pray, and skip going to the doctor? Because God works through *people.* Why not merely go to the doctor, and skip praying? Because *God* works through people.

God can heal the illness without benefit of a doctor, and sometimes that does happen. It can be a true miracle (defined as something not scientifically explainable) in some cases, or in other cases, the illness simply rides itself out. Which God ultimately designed it to do.

Or, He may lead me to a doctor who knows what to do, because God gave that doctor the ability to learn, and provided the means for the doctor's education.

Or, maybe the illness is the direct consequence of some sin/unhealthy habit He wants me to give up. Maybe He's teaching me to learn better ways. Then maybe somewhere down the road, I'll be able to use my experience with that illness to help somebody else.

Or, the illness will be incurable, and eventually I'll die and be with Him.

Regardless of the outcome, He's the one in charge.

In contradiction to what he said about only wanting good for everyone; yes he did.

Word of faith types can get paranoid (to the point of superstitious) about any negative talk. It is a knee-jerk reaction to "send" someone's talk of any kind of sickness to be visited back on them.

Yeah, it seemed like he did. I know WOF folks can get pretty paranoid when you disagree with their "name it and claim it" beliefs and also when you criticize their preacher-gods.

Hmmmm....
I have rejected your gift of sickness, now you have to take it back and recieve it unto yourself. Prayers are very powerful and shouldn't be taken lightly. You will soon understand why we are to only wish good on others, even our enemies. Good luck to you.
Yup. Sounds like a "Christian curse" to me.

I can understand why you see it that way. I have no problem with it. However, it is law. If you steal and i tell you that, because you stole, you will now have to spend time in jail...it doesn't mean that I want you to go to jail, or that it will gives me any satisfaction in seeing you go.... It is just that this is the law. Now there may be some who is unaware of this law....and when they end up in Jail, they will feel it an injustice. I feel that I would be somewhat to blame if I had not told the thief of the results of stealing....so that they can knowingly choose their destiny in the future, as opposed to having things happen to them and they call it "tests and trials" when it is only their own prayers and negative thoughts coming back to them.

But I see your points, and maybe i could have worded it better, and i will do so in the future. I felt no offense for the wishes of myself getting a heart attack in the future, and didnt mean to portray that i did.

The only message that was sent was from the one I responded to. There is no negative talk....only talk. There is nothing wrong with wishing to have a heart attack. "Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles". This was my intended message.......Maybe I should have said it this way, instead of using the same subject that was used by the poster. But I live and learn. If my post continues to give you negative thoughts, I can remove it if you like.

What I say is not something to believe. you can easily try it. Start desiring others to be healthy continuously and see how long it takes you to become sick.... Pretty simply isnt it? Shouldnt be too hard to think these kinds of thoughts for a period of time.... If it doesnt work, you can continue to call me paranoid and label me as one to be ignored.

Should we as Christians who have accepted Jesus as our Saviour, rely on him in times of illness. Or run to the doctors for help in this age? :)

each person should live in their own interior life towards God and do what they think is best.
