I have a half marathon a week from today. It will be my first half since 2011 and frankly, I'm undertrained for it. So no PR, but no stress about it either. I'm still trying to decide on a goal race and distance for this year.
The style of running you do depends on the kind of body you are aiming for, for example long distance running is going to make you very skinny (like Mo Farah)
However if you are going for a more muscular look you should do short sprints (see the difference in body shape from 100m sprinters like Bolt to a long distance runners like Mo Farah) sprints build speed and power.
5-8 minute workouts should do the trick, do your sprints in sets as so you where weight lifting. Warm up then do 30 seconds sprinting at top speed, 30 seconds rest, repeat for 5-8 mins (build up over time from 5 to 8 mins) this is called HIIT training, look into it if you are interested.
I'm a runner, because it keeps me in good shape. I don't run for sport or leisure. This is a good topic. Do you feel more motivated to run at certain hours of the day?
