Hey guys im new here and this is my first post :)! And in reply to the original post - Yes I do running from time to time, but find it hard to keep it up. I also really like biking, and find that biking is a lot better for helping me lose weight!! Any one else do a bit of biking too??

I am training for a half marathon.
I'm not a consistent distance runner - and I'm in the 40- 50 age bracket.
Last week I think I sprained my foot in some way.
It doesn't feel like the plantar fascitis problems that I had before
It feels better now with walking but I'm uncertain how to proceed with the running.
Any advice?
I think I'll just take it slow with some run /walk stuff and see how it goes.
I have orthotics.

When is your race? What part of your foot did you hurt?

Depends on a whole bunch of things:

-how many miles have you been running per week?
-what has your longest run been?
-When is the race?

In regards to your foot, if it in painful to run, you should not run until the pain subsides, because you will only make the matter worse. Testing it with the walk/run is a good idea, do what you can tolerate.

Planter issues are brutal for runners, I hope for your sake it isn't that. Why do you have orthotics? Were the orthotics professional fitted by a podiatrist?

My half marathon is May 31st
My longest run has been 9 miles
I was up to 27 miles total last week

My orthotics were made by my chiropractor about 4 years ago.
the left lateral foot , heel and midfoot, hurt and that is why I was initially suspicious about the plantar fasciitis but it didn't give the sharp stinging pain in the heel like before.

First of all, was your chiropractor qualified and have expertise in designing orthotics? I say this, because if the orthotics are not designed properly, they could be one of the causes of your foot problem.

Participating in the race is going to be dependent on your foot issue and whether you can tolerate the miles. If it continues to be a problem, it may be beneficial to get an opinion from an orthopedic doc or podiatrist.
