  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

well i know i don't...

anyway, concerning RPG's, i'm not too much a fan of modern ones as i've recently realized...
all the voice acting and lond CG sequences, they take away from the fact that in the olden days, you had to imagine what they might sound like, or what it might look like in real life, somewhat like a book, and well, i've always felt that RPGs are part literature (given the fact that most of them require hours of reading)...

probably the most modern RPG i like is Grandia II...
and Warcraft III if you count the RPG elements in it...

I remember reading a comparison of Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment that gave the number of words to read in the dialogue box.

Icewind Dale = 250,000 (Heavy on the hack n slash)

Baldur's Gate = 500,000 (Well balanced dialogue and action)

Planescape Torment = 750,000 (Better like an involved story and be prepared to do some reading)

I remember thinking, while playing Torment, that it was like an interactive novel. :D Still, it's one of the deepest RPGs I've ever played even if the multiverse was kind of dark and gritty. Hmmm...maybe I need to load it up and play again.
