Well, of Miyazaka's work, I'd have to say that "Whispers of the Heart" and "Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind" were my two favorites. "Porko Rosso" was also a good one too.

*clears throat* I have yet to play the early FFs, so you have me there. BUT! The default charcater is deffinitely Aeris, and the creatuer on Squall's ring is a lion, Destrovel to be exact.
And PuPu wanted 5 elixirs.

i don't think i've seen "Whispers of the heart", but yes, Valley of the Wind is good, how did they come up with an idea of a cloudclimber? absolutely brilliant.

have you guys noticed that anime movies have the coolest music too? the music in "Princess Mononoke" is just beautiful.

OK, in FFII, the Dwarf Princess' name was Luca.

In FFIII/VI, Cid was the chief scientist for the Empire in charge of the Magitek projects, and later Celes' "grandfather." Setzer was the pilot, and Edgar was the "engineer" type.

The default character for the date in FFVII is indeed Aeris. If Cloud acquired so much as one "love point" with her (which he would have from buying the flower, if you so mindlessly did that as most players, including me, did), he gets a date with Aeris. Cloud only gets Tifa if you work very hard to balance it that way, and Yuffie is the hardest of all to get: not only must you recruit her as soon as possible in the game, there must not be even one point with Tifa, Aeris, or even Barret, which is nearly impossible to do.

It is a lion, and you are correct.

Miyazaki is probably my favorite anime/manga artist. i've never heard of whispers of the heart though. i don think it's been translated into english yet.. i'll be sure to graba hold of it when it gets subtitled, or find a fansub...

... i COULD attempt to understand chinese and get that... hRmMM

1) You fight the creature Jenova several times in the course of the game...
a) what relation is she to Sephiroth?
b) What are the different names of her when you fight her?

2) You fight Sephiroth in a succesion of forms at the end of the game
a) Where do you fight him at? (be VERY specific)
b) What are the different forms called?

jenova is Sephiroth's mother. I do not remember the names from each battle.

You fight him in the North Cave crater, at the core. The last one was safer sephiroth. I don't remember the others too well.
