  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you think the press should be so interested in snapping pictures of Prince William and his family? Or, do you think he should be able to keep his private life private? What do you think of that British tabloid that took pictures of him skiing with his girlfriend?

I think he should be able to keep his private life private and that the public has no business in what he does in private. Just because he is a prince they think they have to know everything he does. He's second heir to the throne so it's not like he's going to be the king really soon. I don't know I just think it's silly to be so interested in all he does. Any British people out there have an opinion?

Personally I cant stand the Royal Family. They eat up millions of pounds worth of tax money, leading luxurious lives when they could be giving the money to the poor.
They represent our country and yet smoke drugs, have affairs, and live scandalous lives.
What power do they actually have? None.

God Bless, metal.

I agree and I'm not even British. If they weren't royal and were just some average everyday family their actions would get them on the Jerry Springer show.

Why is it that when people think of the Brits, they think of people that are stuck-up, snotty, proper, "impeccable" manners, straight-laced, and/or stuffy?? I met some Brits and they are just the opposite though our cultures/ways differ!!

To answer those questions...
1. They shouldn't be but they would be out of a job.
2. William shouldn't be doing anything extraordinary to attract attention.
3. Eye candy.

Although I agree with aspects about what hotmetal said, I disagree on others. Sure, they eat up millions of pounds, but they're also one of the largest tourist industries in the UK. Lots of tourists come to England specifically to see the palaces with the guards and possibly a glimpse of the Queen.

Also, I honestly don't really care about what goes on in his private life. It's just the media trying to find something "Interesting" to cover when infact it bores me beyond belief.

The Queen herself has enormous power. She simply doesn't use it because doing so would guaranttee the UK (and other Commonwealth nations) becoming a republic.

I've never understood the fascination many have with the royal family. It makes little sense to me. I've never met them and I'm unlikely to ever meet them and know them in a significant way. So why would I care what they're doing where and with whom? Then again, I don't see why everyone loves America's royalty (hollywood anyone?) either.

Amen!

"Strong Bad! How do you respond to claims that your comments brought the entire royal family to tears?"
"Screw all Y'all!"

I've always considered the Hollywood celebrity side of America to be disturbing... I don't like it at all, and I live in the US. I'm actually quite glad that I'm not a fan of anyone.

As for the British royal family, I've recently watched the Secret Tapes of Princess Diana's marriage to Prince Charles, and it truly made me very sad the way they treated her. It goes to show you that a uniform with badges and a huge crown in the vault aren't substitutes for common sense or morality.

We even have to capitalize royal in The Royal Family, because of course there is only one that everyone knows about. j/k.

They have soo many perks themselves, I recently watched the Fabulous Life of Prince William and Harry on VH1 and was shocked about how they get THE BEST of THE BEST of everything. From 20 pairs of custom made crocodile skin shoes to their own private club that is always fully stocked underneath one of their many homes. It's almost sinful, although I guess there isn't anything specifically sinful in owning fabulous things. But to get back to the original question :) I think that if they get so much money for doing absolutely nothing but being born into their family they should expect media coverage. Definitely the papparazi goes too far though. But you can't take without giving sometimes.

i am glad those people changed your view:) because i am not any of those things. Barely anyone in Britains like that. Only a few really rich people are like that! I am Scottish and live in a city w/ loads of rich people around most of them just act normally. Brittish people (in general) aren't any of the top things! We're just normal. I hate stereotypes  they get people's thinking so mixed up!

I don't think that way... ever British person I've met were soccer players, and dirty ones at that.

But stereo types are every where... take me for example:
1) I'm from Texas... If I go anywhere else people always ask if I have a horse and where do I put it when I go to school.
2) Because I live on the coast I have developed a "west coast" accent. So people immedately assume I smoke pot. Especailly those in west Texas.

Stereo types suck... I'm gonna go cry now

The thing is though, they didn't choose to get born into that family, and if they give up all the fabulous stuff they'll still have teh papparazi. It's punishing them for something they had no choice in and can do nothing about.
