I am getting rather tired both of the dishonest rhetoric about Obama being a Muslim AND the idea that we should somehow never discuss the religion of candidates.

Romney is in fact a Mormon. Mormonism has an extremely poor history, is associated with a lot of criminality, greed, and questionable sexual and ethical behavior. Brigham Young led an armed insurrection against the U.S. And it was NOT to try to achieve anything particularly noble.

Young directed both religious and economic matters. He encouraged independence and self-sufficiency. Many cities and towns in Utah, and some in neighboring states, were founded under Young's direction. Young's leadership style has been viewed as autocratic.[21] When federal officials received reports of widespread and systematic obstruction of federal officials in Utah (most notably judges), U.S. President James Buchanan decided to install a non-Mormon governor. Buchanan accepted the reports of the judges without any further investigation, and the new non-sectarian governor was accompanied by troops sent to garrison forts in the new territory. The troops passed by the bloody Kansas–Missouri war without intervening in it, as it was not open warfare and only isolated sporadic incidents. When Young received word that federal troops were headed to Utah with his replacement, he called out his militia to ambush the federal column. During the defense of Deseret, now called the Utah War, Young held the U.S. Army at bay for a winter by taking their cattle and burning supply wagons.

In other words, Brigham Young tried to unite church and state, then successfully fought off the Feds when they tried to straighten him out.

Obama is one of these Christians that may as well be atheistic, but he is clearly not Muslim. What he is is bad enough, but again, we are not allowed to talk about people's spiritual beliefs and how they inform their moral and ethical values.

This is not supported by our nation's laws or history. It is, in fact, exactly how socialists quashed freedom of religion in Europe, and continue to do so.

It is very important to know where Obama spent his childhood at.

Well, we all know don't we?

He's still not a Muslim, or if he is he is so incognito about it, and so enthusiastically promotes the idea of Christianity over Islam, that the point is moot.

Off topic, but I had to comment. This is ironic. Carl Sagan, an Astronomer/atheist, wrote a book called, Demon Haunted World? I'd say that was a premonition of the underworld he descended to! And I do know to what extant ignorance of God contributes to the decline of an individual and that scientific illiteracy that paints an atheistic picture is actually not dangerous at all!

So Obama did in fact live in Indonesia for a little while?
Yes, Obama's mother's second husband was a Muslim Indonesian. From what I understand, he was more of a pro-american kind of guy and a pro-businessman than his mother thought he should be, so Obama eventually got shipped off to Hawaii to live with his maternal godparents. That way, he would have the corrupting influence of such a stepfather being prominent in his life.

What is it that bothers me with Obama? The Democratic party and a lot of their beliefs.

Mitt Romney and the Republicans aren't exactly my faith, but at least they aren't voting against God on a lot of my moral issues (for the unborn babies, not promoting gays, saving some USA for our children's children, etc.).

What bothers me is where we are heading financially! If a party respects balancing the budget then they should at least be moral enough to not spend away our children's lives, putting them into slavery to pay off our debts.

I love JFK's saying and thus did once love the Democrat party, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country" Somehow, that is one of the sweetest things that I heard as a child growing up. I loved that president dearly, as did most of the USA (and world?).

We are? Where do you get that idea from?

p. 568 begins to talk of specific subsidies. These begin to be politically charged and give the government influence in the church.

Many established churches elsewhere in Europe are still the state church, and obviously this works against independant religious movements. In no few, the state church is heavily influenced by atheistic bureaucrats put in place to run them by the state.

The history of socialism in Europe just in general, especially post French Revolution, contains a lot of anti-clerical and anti-religious activism that led directly to much of the flight to the U.S. of folks looking for more religious freedom.
