Answer: The forehead represents the mind (Hebrews 10:16). A person will be marked in the forehead by a decision to keep Sunday as a holy day. The hand is a symbol of work (Ecclesiastes 9:10). A person will be marked in the hand by working on God's holy Sabbath or by going along with Sunday laws for practical reasons (job, family, etc.). The sign, or mark, for either God or the beast will be invisible to people. You will, in essence, mark yourself by accepting either God's sign or mark, the Sabbath, or the beast's mark, Sunday. Though invisible to men, God will know who has which mark (2 Timothy 2:19).

Let me help you put this verse into perspective. Colossae was hotbed of Pagan beliefs at that time. It was not the Jews in Jerusalem who were judging these converts; it was their own Pagan family and friends. I went through same thing when I started keeping Yahweh's law.

In proper understanding this verse reads like:

Colossians 2:16 So let no one judge you in (clean) food or in (clean)drink, or regarding a festival (as you keep YHWH's moedim) or a new moon (as you recognize YHWH's ordained times) or sabbaths (as you enter YHWH's rest, at his appointed time, as a sign between him and you), 17 which are a shadow of things to come, (The moedim point to all of the prophecy concerning Yahshua. the Fall moedim have yet to be fulfilled. The offerings celebrate the sacrifice of Yahshua. The Sabbath is entering YHWH's rest)but the substance is of Christ

Hi Hark, what expanded translation is that? I like it.

According to that interpretation you can show up for a trial date in court any day you want to. I wouldn't want to have to explain that interpretation to my Judge, as I stood before him.

When I show up for that trail date of Matthew 25, I am letting my advocate do all the talking. It would be foolish to interrupt him.

110AD Pliny: they were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath not to (do) any wicked deeds, never to commit any fraud, theft, or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of good food—but food of an ordinary and innocent kind. (About three years after the death of Ignatius in 250, an important official communication was sent from one Pliny to Trajan the Roman emperor. Pliny, the Roman governor of Bithynia, wrote of the Christians who had been congregating there probably from at least A.D. 62 onwards. In this remarkable it is explicitly stated that these early Christians observed the substance of most of the Ten Commandments, and it is implied that they observed all ten as far as they were able to do so. Certainly the expression would seem to indicate a regular day of meeting, probably each week. But Sunday is far more likely to have been the "certain fixed day" than Saturday. For if Pliny had been referring to the old Saturday Sabbath, as a Roman he would doubtless have referred to the "later" meeting first and only then to the morning meeting on the day al ter the "certain fixed day", seeing that the old Saturday Sabbath was demarcated from the evening of one day to the evening of the following day. But Pliny makes no such reference. Instead, he mentions that the pre-dawn meeting took place first—and only afterwards the later meeting; and that both meetings took place on the same "certain fixed day". This rather points to the Roman (and—more importantly!—New Testament) midnight to midnight demarcation of modern Sunday-keepers than to the evening to evening demarcation of the Jews and the Seventh-day Adventists. For because he [the Antichrist] pretends to die and rise again, he wishes the Lord's day to be had in reverence; and because he compels the people to Judaize that he may bring back the outward rite of the Law, and subject the perfidy of the Jews to himself, he wishes the Sabbath to be observed. For this which is said by the prophet, 'You shall bring in no burden through your gates on the Sabbath day' (Jer. 17:24) could be held to as long as it was lawful for the Law to be observed according to the letter. But after that the grace of almighty God, our Lord Jesus Christ, has appeared, the commandments of the Law which were spoken figuratively cannot be kept according to the letter. For if anyone says that this about the Sabbath is to be kept, he must needs say that carnal sacrifices are to be offered. He must say too that the commandment about the circumcision of the body is still to be retained. But let him hear the apostle Paul saying in opposition to him: 'If you be circumcised, Christ will profit you nothing' (Gal. 5:2)" (Letters 13:1).Early Christians always met on the First day (Sunday) and never kept the sabbath!

The Scriptural weekly sabbath is the 7th day after the new moon and each 7th day thereafter.

Romans 14 says that "one man observes one day above another while another man observes all of them"

Galatians 4 flatly condemns anyone that observes a pagan holy day.

The holy days observed in Romans 14 are the Bible-approved annual holy days listed in Leviticus 23. They had been observed for centuries along with the 7th day Bible Sabbath. One did not negate the other.

So then Galatians 4 condemns observance of even ONE of the pagan holy days - but does not condemn observance of the Lev 23 Bible holy days defended in Romans 14.

The question is not "does the Bible address any other holy days in Lev 23 other than the weekly Sabbath" because everyone on both sides - will admit that it does. They are annual holy days.

As for the Bible Sabbath - "From Sabbath to Sabbath shall ALL MANKIND Come before Me to worship" Is 66:23
  1. If Isa 66:23 teaches that we will keep the Jewish Sabbath in heaven, then it also teaches we will keep the Jewish New Moon festival in heaven! What proves too much proves nothing at all! "And it shall be from new moon to new moon, and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all mankind will come to bow down before Me, says the Lord" Isa 66:23. Sabbatarians have the Jewish new moon festival in heaven: Isa 66:23? No! Abolished Col 2:16
  2. If Isa 66:23 teaches that we will keep the Jewish Sabbath in heaven, then it also teaches in Isa 66:21 that the Levitical priests will be in heaven, because it is also mentioned. Sabbatarians have Levitical priests in heaven: Isa 66:21? No! Priesthood changed Heb 7:12.
  3. Sabbatarians have night in heaven Isa 66:23? (new moons require night) No! Revelation says there is no night in heaven. Rev. 21: 23; 22:5. You cannot have "new moon to new moon" without day and night!
  4. Is. 65:20: What kind of heaven would it be where the child dies at 100? (See Rev. 21:4, 27; 22:14,15)
  5. Is. 65:20: Are there sinners in heaven? If you die at age 75 you are an accursed sinner?
  6. Weekly Sabbath was abolished, in Col 2:14-16, you cannot use Isa 66 to prove the sabbath is for today! - Isa 66:23, does not teach that the Sabbath will be in heaven!
A final false objection Sabbath keepers will sometimes raise against Col 2:14-16 referring to the weekly Sabbath, is the fact v14 calls that which was nailed to the cross "hostile to us". Sabbatarians continue to falsely argue: "The weekly Sabbath was not hostile to us!" However, 2 Cor 3:7 calls the entire ten commandment law, a "ministry of death". This effectively refutes their false argument! - Col 2:14-16 clearly teaches that the sabbath was abolished and nailed to cross!

3. Is Sabbath versus Sunday the end-time deciding issue? - The New Testament never describes the Sabbath as the one great issue that will divide the true believers from the false believers. If the Sabbath was indeed such a profound issue, such a "life-or-death" matter of eternal consequence, then why did Jesus and the Apostles say nothing of its importance?

Paul told Christians not to judge eachother regarding the keeping of the Sabbath (Col. 2:16) or any other day they decide to keep holy:

One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. (Rom. 14:5 NIV)

In the book of Romans, Paul encouraged Christians to uphold the law (Rom. 3:31), but he did not over-emphasize the importance of the Sabbath. Why not? Was it because God wanted us to figure out the most profound issue in Christianity on our own, without any help or guidance from His Word? Or was it because the writers of the Bible were uninspired and had no idea this would become an issue at the end of time? Of course not!

It is absurd to think that such a critical decision--a decision upon which hinges the eternal destination of the Christian believer--would be met with silence by Paul and other New Testament authors. Every student knows that when a teacher has an important point to make to his students, he reiterates that point over and over again. Jesus and the Apostles were the greatest teachers this world has ever seen. The points they repeatedly emphasized were:

  • Love
  • Grace
  • Forgiveness
  • Mercy
  • Doing good to others
  • Faith
  • Salvation
  • Return of Christ
  • Dangers of legalism
These subjects are repeated over and over again in the New Testament. What about the necessity of keeping Sabbath as a holy day? Oddly enough, it is never mentioned in the New Testament, not even once. 1. It shows two cycles. the 7 day weekly Sabbath and a new moon cycle for worship
2. I have not made any "Campaign" out of rejecting the future of all mankind complying with the new moon worship service of Is 66:23 -- but others DO make a goal of assailing the Bible Sabbath both now and for all eternity. Thus the point - remains.
3. Even your own pro-sunday scholars admit that the Sabbath commandment is included in the moral law of God written on the heart under the New Covenant.
4. The Sabbath for mankind - is also specifically applied to gentiles in Isaiah 56:5-8
5. Isaiah 66:23 says that even for all eternity in the New Earth this is applicable.
6. John is correct in telling us in Rev 21 that the New Earth event happens after the 1000 years.
7. Even your own sunday-scholars admit that in the post-1000-year new Earth period... there is no death.

The point remains.

DIDACHE: "Christian Assembly on the Lord's Day: 1. But every Lord's day do ye gather yourselves together, and break bread, and give thanksgiving after having confessed your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure. 2. The Didache is mentioned by Eusebius (c. 324) as the Teachings of the Apostles following the books recognized as canonical:[21]

"Let there be placed among the spurious works the Acts of Paul, the so-called Shepherd and the Apocalypse of Peter, and besides these the Epistle of Barnabas, and what are called the Teachings of the Apostles, (Didache) and also the Apocalypse of John, if this be thought proper; for as I wrote before, some reject it, and others place it in the canon."




Many scholars have dated the text to the late 2nd century CE, a view still held today, other scholars have the Didache might go back to the first century. The document is a composite work, and the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls with its Manual of Discipline provided evidence of development over a considerable period of time, beginning as a Jewish catechetical work which was then developed into a church manual. Additionally, apart from two minuscule fragments, the Greek text of the Didache has only survived in a single manuscript, the Codex Hierosolymitanus. Dating the document is thus made difficult both by the lack of hard evidence and its composite character. The Didache may have been compiled in its present form as late as 150,


Some feel more comfortable with “The Didache a Christian manual compiled before 300AD.”


Some have imagined that the Didache says that the Lord’s Day is Sunday, or week-day-1… – but in fact – it does not.

The verses I quoted had to do with days they worshipped at the temple.

What does "day by day" and "first day of the week" mean?

Matthew 28:1 [ Resurrection Morning ] After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb.

The Sabbath is never explictly called the Lord's Day in the OT. These early Christian texts demonstrates that Christians called Sunday, The Lord's Day.

100 AD BARNABAS "We keep the eighth day [Sunday] with joyfulness, the day also on which Jesus rose again from the dead" (The Epistle of Barnabas, 100 AD 15:6-8).
100 AD BARNABAS: Moreover God says to the Jews, 'Your new moons and Sabbaths 1 cannot endure.' You see how he says, 'The present Sabbaths are not acceptable to me, but the Sabbath which I have made in which, when I have rested [heaven: Heb 4] from all things, I will make the beginning of the eighth day which is the beginning of another world.' Wherefore we Christians keep the eighth day for joy, on which also Jesus arose from the dead and when he appeared ascended into heaven. (15:8f, The Epistle of Barnabas, 100 AD, Ante-Nicene Fathers , vol. 1, pg. 147)

180AD GOSPEL OF PETER: Early in the morning when (he Sabbath dawned, a multitude from Jerusalem and the surrounding country came to see the scaled sepulchre. In the night in which the Lord's day dawned, while the soldiers in pairs for each watch were keeping guard, a great voice came from heaven. [There follows an account of the resurrection. Early in the morning of the Lord's day Mary Magdalene, a disciple of the Lord .... came to the sepulchre. (9:34f.; 12:50f.)
Early Christians always met on the First day (Sunday) and never kept the sabbath!

Every well educated SDA I have met clealy understands that Romans 14 has Christians worshipping Jesus on any day they please.

Jeremiah 46:10 For this is the day of the Lord God of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: for the Lord God of hosts hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

As you can see the phrase, "day of the Lord" in OT has to do with God's wrath, not the day of worship.

Seventh Day Adventist and other Seventh day churches like to debate the day of worship. They makes claims like worshiping on Sunday is the mark of the antichrist.

Romans 14 makes it plan that there were Christians who worshiped on other days besides Saturday.

Some were in the habit of daily worship.
For me it's Christmas. I don't get into it at all. And Easter. For me, EVERY day is Christmas and Easter. And every day is the Sabbath for my rest is Jesus.
