  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jesus established His authority over all realms through His death and resurrection. The last enemy is death which He trampled underfoot. You will recall that many of the dead were seen walking in Jerusalem after His death. This was to evidence His defeat of death.

Matt 27:
51 At that moment the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs broke open, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised. 53 After Jesus’ resurrection, when they had come out of the tombs, they entered the holy city and appeared to many people.…

Why did jesus need to be crucified. To be the God of both the dead and the living?

1 Thessalonians 5:10
He died for us (believers) so that, whether we (believers) are awake (alive on earth) or asleep (in the grave awaiting resurrection), we may live together with Him.

Why did jesus need to be crucified. To be the God of both the dead and the living?

Jesus needed to be crucified for the salvation of all men. His blood needed to be shed to atone for our sins. In dying, he had to rise. If he did not rise, there would be no hope for us to be raised from the dead. As Paul said, if he was not raised from the death, then out hope is in vain. A Christian's hope is not in death or what many call the afterlife, it is in the resurrection and this is only possible becauseJesus overcame death and was resurrected.

Mat_22:32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

He was crucified to be a symbolic Lamb, a sin sacrifice which paid the price for sin to be forgiven upon repentance. OT law required an animal sacrifice for sin atonement. Repentance wasn't enough but repentance is enough now because Christ paid the animal sacrifice cost for us.
