Last year I had a blast watching Rock Star INXS and although I missed the very first show, I pegged J.D. Fortune to win it by episode two.

The show seems a bit more polished this go around which always happens, but here are my favourite picks so far.

Storm Large did Pinball Wizard and totally rocked in my opinion. Great stage presence, great voice, she brought originality to a classic; not easy to do.

Patrice Pike did Somebody To Love and I really enjoyed her quirkyness. She seemed to be having a blast and was totally comfortable on stage. Loved it.

Josh ??? did Talks To Angels and although I didn't like the deliberate shakiness of his voice at first (my husband said he sounded like Pee Wee Herman) I loved what he did with the rest of the song and I actually got goosebumps.

Dilana. Wow, my hubby just pegged this one. Before she even came up he said "Watch this- she's gonna steal the show." And then she proceeded to do exactly that. My only criticism? She got a little silly at the end of the song. Amazing stage presence.

Lukas the poor Canadian boy. I enjoyed his rendition of Billy Idol's Rebel Yell but I'd sure like to see if he can do stuff that's not as hard. I'd like to see more range from his voice. The dark horse.

So, anybody else?

I watched most of the show last night, but I missed some of the acts. The ones I saw, I liked Dilana, Patrice and Toby. I thought the weakest performances were Magni, Matt, and Ryan. And I am not sure what I thought of Zayra. , but the band sure did seem to like her.

I am still trying to figure out if this is just a new gimmick of Tommy Lee's or if he really wants to have a new band. I know they want to cut an album and they have a concert lined up for New Years Eve, but I just wonder how much longer after that the band will continue.:D

I was wondering about that too. Why only one show lined up? It sure doesn't sound like the gig INXS had lined up. Mind you if the album is a success, a tour will naturally follow.
J.D. Fortune kick started INXS again- the winner may do the same for Supernova.

Well, I missed the first show and I'll miss the show this week - makes me kinda mad, because I really like the ones where everyone sings wayyyyy better than the in-between ones.

I agreed with their choice of sending Matt home - actually, I feel like Tommy Lee & Co. would be a bad influence on him. He is a good singer, but his voice and choice of songs and persona do not go with the heavy stuff.

I actually kind of liked Phill.

The gal who did the encore was SCAREY and seemed sort of Satanic, and also that Lukas character. and it wasn't just their makeup and piercings - there is something else.....

I thought Chris was blahhhh

I totally agree with you- he'd fit better in another genre. I wouldn't want to see him all messed up.

I didn't like Phil on the performance night but I liked his rendition of "Stars". YOu could tell it meant something to him.
I agree that encore girl WAS scary- much more so than Lukas. I thnk one of those two will get the job- at least, at this point anyway. We'll see how and if things change.
I also like Lukas' comment that Dana?? couldn't handle a party with Supernova, let alone a world tour. Amazing pipes though- she's got a real gift.

Yeah, I was telling my hubby that I think she is most probably a practicing witch or something along those lines, but Lukas seems like a poser to me.

yes, I agree. I personally find Lukas unlikable, but then I'm not a heavy metal fan, really.

yeah, that was funny - and one of the reasons he's unlikeable. lol, he calls 'em like he sees 'em..... like someone else I know (see her every day in the mirror.....:sorry: )

I agree with what you all are saying, especially about the encore gal - very scary.

And I knew Matt was dead in the water the second he announced what he was singing. I am not a heavy metal fan, but even I know when auditioning for a heavy metal band, you do not sing a Duran Duran song. And I agree, kicking Matt out may have been the best thing to happen to him. Like Dana, they would have ruined him.

I hear ya there. I was pretty shocked that he picked Duran Duran too!

I only saw the last 15 minutes of the mansion episode on Monday and it looks like scary gal Dilana is going to sing "Ring of Fire" but she is going to slow it down and de-countrify it. She said she wants to "show I have a heart". A wise decision.

mansion episode? huh? probably I'm not getting it because I live in hillbilly country. LOL

They just do a half hour episode of "life in the rock star mansion" showing how they get along and how they choose their songs and stuff as well as them getting prepared for the Tuesday show.

Are you talking about the webisodes? Or is that on TV somewhere? We haven't watched the web eps because we keep forgetting about them. :sigh:

I'm liking the show so far, but Tommy Lee could pose for the camera a leeetle bit less and it wouldn't hurt my feelings. ;)

Dilana is my pick so far. She was awesome. Last year, Jordis Unga sang a Nirvana song and I picked her to win too, but then she derailed. Maybe I just like girls who sing Nirvana. :D

They have a half hour episode on Monday nights- hard to find it looks like! They show them prepping for the show and how they get along and stuff.

Dilana is my pick as well- I also think Lukas will go a long way. Storm kicked butt too I thought. I actually think tha crop of women is much more talented than the men this year.

Hey, I thought Jordiss was AMAZING last year. I'm actually glad she didn't win so she could focus on her own style. Did anything ever become of her?

What network is the Monday night episode on? I'm checking my TiVo program guide and there's nothing scheduled on CBS for last night. Last year, they played the half hour mansion shows on VH1 but I thought they were only doing those on the web this year.

I checked out Jordis' MySpace a couple months ago and I believe she said she was releasing an album.

I missed the first 20 min, but I was in time to catch Dilana sing Johnny Cash's song, and I thought she did a great job. I am thinking that she is the top singer so far. :D

They did not seem to like Lukas as much this week. I am still not sure about him yet.

And I think Tommy Lee's comment to Dana "Born to be Mild" was a little harsh. But she isn't a real head banger is she?

Of the ones I saw, besides Storm, I thought the rest of the singers were only so-so.

And I totally agree, I think the female singers this year are a much stronger group than the male singers.

I loved Dilana's version of Ring of Fire as well. I really liked the Eastern flavour she and the band gave it.

Here are my comments from last night:

Magni the Icelander: Sang My generation

It's an easy song to sing so it's hard to mess it up. It was fun and punky- I liked it- my hubby didn't

Jenny the Canuck: Tainted Love

I liked the gradual build up and I liked them telling her to go eat a sandwich - she's not what they're looking for though

Jill : Violet

I never liked Courtney Love so this may be biased- high energy but I hated the screaming- also, highly unoriginal

Zayta: YOu really got me

she's so stiff and plays the sexpot too much- hilarious exchange between her and the band though- one of the guys says" I don't think you have a clue what we're looking for- do you have any of our albums?"
She says" i've heard of your music" and the audience and the band groans and she says that she was in diapers when their music came out- bold and hilarious.

Chris:

just bloody awful, the man can't sing

Dilana:LOVED it

Josh: Arms Wide OPen: I also hated the way he threw his voice around- like Navarro said- you build a tolerance to it unless done in the right select places

Phil: If you can only see:

This guys LOOKS like a PHil. YOu just can't have a guy named Phil fronting a heavy metal band.

Storm: Surrender:
not my favourite song but she sang it well- great voice, great stage presence, totally not right for them

Patrice- Heart shaped box:

Loved it- love this woman's voice and I liked her changes to the song before the first chorus

Lukas: Don't Panic

In my opinion, I thought it was just mediocre- it didn't seem real hearing him sing about how "beautifuL" the world is

Ryan: Jumpin Jack Flash
Way to butcher a great song buddy!

Dana: Amazing voice- but at the end of the song she just kind of stood around wondering what to do with herself. She's too nice to be there. I hope she gets voted off soon!

Toby: Somebody told me:
Good energy but I really don't like this guy at all- he just BUGS me

I'm in Canada so our network feed is different from yours. Maybe they aren't having it on tv this year!
