I don't think JD impressed them too much with his drunken antics. Why would they hire another self-abuser?The last one killed himself.
I agree he is the closest to the right type of singer for the band, but come on,he couldn't sing We are the Champions.^_^

I hear ya brother- I don't think any of them are really suited for INXS either.
JD is the closest thing to their man I think but he'll be nothing but trouble.

Maybe we were watching different shows eh Tal?

Here's the deal - we're talking about a lead singer for a rock band - Dave keeps pointing out the contrary nature of rock singers / musicians, and he has a point there. Do they want someone squeaky-clean, or someone with a real edge? Ideally, IMHO, they would all get radically saved, including Dave and Brooke and all the rockers that are left, form a righteously powerful P&W band, and all live happily ever after. But if they are determined to stay a rock band, then I'm voting for edgy.

I'm going to start considering how well they fit in with INXS (in my opinion, of course, and just rate them with 1 as best and then on down......

Last night........

Ty - You Can't Always Get What You Want - He did really well - I still don't think he's right for INXS, he's wayyyyy more genuine and relaxed with things like this than he would be with INXS songs, IMHO. - 4

Marty - Wish You Were Here - I didn't hear much of this one, my husband got a phone call. What I did hear was okay, but it sounded like Marty with his Martyness removed, and he probably felt like he'd sold his soul. Sad. - 5

JD - Suspicious Minds - I really enjoyed this. I was an Elvis fan when I was a kid (who wasn't?), and I thought this had just enough Elvis in it to be a tribute and just enough JD to be edgy. He looked tuff too. - 2

Jordis - Imagine - I dislike this song because it's what I call a "beautiful deception" - but Jordis sang it VERY WELL. I don't think she chose well when to sit and play the guitar, though. On the msn website whoever does the recaps says she was "concentrating on the one-world dreaminess and forgetting Lennon's withering cynicism, which keeps the song honest," and I quite agree with that, but THE VOICE....... Oh my goodness...... she sang wonderfully - and oh, she needs Jesus, I could see the struggle in her eyes..... (Unrelated Point - her dad rocks ;) ) - 3

MiG - Live and Let Die - I thoroughly enjoyed this performance! I liked the contrast between the sweet verses and the tough choruses, and the musical arrangement was, as Kerry said, "massive," which to me is the best of what RockNRoll can be. Crazyawesome. And that note - and the fall after it - great performance..... - 1

Suzie - Bohemian Rhapsody - that was quite a bite to chew, and I personally don't think Suzie measured up. She came off a bit cutesy IMHO, and I just do not see what INXS sees in her. She didn't take any vocal risks, and she has the voice to do it. The only person besides Freddy Murcury that IMHO has ever done this song well is, ironically, Axl Rose. (And, btw, the guitar player couldn't hack it either, and neither could whoever was mixing the sound. The choir, on the other hand, was awesome! As were the other musicians.) - 6

I think INXS will give Ty the encore. I think others in the viewing public will agree with me on Suzie's performance last night, so she'll be in the bottom three tonight, but INXS will absolve her, and the showdown will be between Ty and Marty. From this point, every loss will be a sad one.

I didn't vote last night because I went straight to bed after the show....... but obviously I would've voted for MiG. I think he's the best choice for the band.

I disagree with you on Susie.
I (and everyone else on the show),thought she just kicked ***!!
The guitarist was awesome, too. They all blew me away!
I loved Marty's rendition of Wish You Were Here!He is the right man for the band!!!
He showed that he can sing normally when he has to.;)
Mig bored me to tears. His voice was not right for that song, and he is not right for the band.
I was so glad to see Ty go.:) He should have been gone long ago!:p
I think Jordis should be the next to go.

Here's what I wrote in my notes last night to keep it honest....:D

Ty- You can't always get what you want-
I thought his "what you need, what you need" reference was VERY clever.
However, he just makes me think of a cardboard box. C+

J.D. Suspicious Minds-
I liked the smoothness of the tempo change- I loved when he encouraged the band to "pick it up ,pick it up!" He's just a great performer. I love him, I hate him, I can't take my eyes off of him.:p A-

Marty-Wish you were here
I used to dance to this song so I feel very protective of it...
I felt this from him- I felt his vulnerability for the first time and it warmed me. The softness in his voice had a lovely brittle edge- haunting A

Imagine- Jordiss-
TAL- I FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT THIS SONG- A BEAUTIFUL DECEPTION- It's hard too because Lennon was my hero before Christ.
Anyway- the first time "you" came up, she didn't make the note and that was too bad- she did it the second time though and it was beautiful.
It was pretty but not pretty amazing. B+

MIg- Live and Let die-
This is the first rock and roll song in my memory- I was 5 years old at the drive in with my folks and heard this song and never forgot it!
I got goosebumps right away but he lost me quickly- his screaming before the bridge just ruined it for me although that last night was incredible! B

Suzie- Bohemian Rhapsody
Another one I used to dance to and feel protective of
First off- she has never looked more beautiful- I thought it was a bit of a slow start for her but she really came through for me- I enjoyed the heck out of it and was laughing with joy during the "so you think you can stomp me and spit in my eye" part- she was having so much fun it was awesome. She rocked!!!
A+
My eyes actually got moist when she fell to her knees after the "we're proud that you want to be part of the band" comment.

ps
I also think her professionalism and talent in the studio earned her high marks

My favourite show so far!

It was nice to be able to see the energy of a "mini-set" and how they worked it.

J.D. Come As You Are-

I really really liked what he did with it. The anticipation kept the energy high and the tension was sweetly unbearable. LOVED when he kicked into it. What a release. I guess no analogies are needed here eh?:D

Pretty Vegas

I really liked this song. I liked what he did with the experimentation of sound (ie cupping his hands over the mike, the megaphone) Loved the chorus and of course, his energy was fantastic. He looked very comfortable in the shoes of his own song.

SUZIE-I Can't Make You Love Me

No Suzie, you can't. I felt the "I Can't" part of the chorus didn't have the smooth sweetness it longed for.

Soul Life
I wrote that I liked this song but I can barely remember it now only 45 minutes later. I wrote that I liked the chorus and that it had a great range for showing off her voice.
J.D. was a TOUGH act to follow tonight.

MIG- Hard To Handle
Well, it's pretty hard to mess up such a funky tune and he didn't. I enjoyed his performance though I really felt it was nothing special. I liked when he pointed to the guitarist before his solo!

Home In Me-
Not crazy about it. sung quite prettily but coming down like that, so suddenly, and with a song about DEATH no less, was VERY hard to handle. You have to have a sense about when to do songs like this. Talk about mood killer.

JORDIS- We are The Champions
I literally got goosebumpswhen she made the first big notes. I really enjoyed it.

Try Not-
I still can't think of what chick singer she reminded me of but it'll come to me. Catchy chorus, very simple and it worked.
I really expected Jordiss to bomb tonight. I still think she'll be voted off tomorrow but she's got nothing to be ashamed of. Man she's a kid yet- and what grace she has shown. Good on 'er.

MARTY- Everlong
Marty is really showing how much he wants this gig. I was SO impressed with his rendition of this song. HIs voice has never sounded smoother and more clear. The low notes were fantastic.

Trees- When I first heard Marty practising the chorus to this song on the half hour "Reality" show, I was hooked.
I LOVED this song. No really, I LOVED this song.   At once hopeful and realistic. Adorable, sweet, clever, simple. CAtchy as heck. Fantastic. :D The best song and performance of the night. He's got the same amount of energy as JD without that "cocky ahem" attitude and that might seal the deal for him. I think he deserves it. I got goosebumps from this song. I am giving him a standing ovation. Dave was right. That song IS radio worthy. I'll be singing it all day tomorrow. In fact, I think I'm actually going to download it.

This week was totally fun and I'm looking forward to what else is in store!

Next!

ah, our little club! lol

I'm with both of you, Marty's the man for the job. Even my husband was excited about his performance last night, and it takes a lot to get him into it.

It's hard to decide things with the minisets, because I think the transitions between songs were generally awkward.... but it was interesting.

JD - Come as you are - bo-ring. I found the first part annoying. By the time he "kicked into it," I had already lost interest and was talking to my husband. His immediate transition into Pretty Vegas was maybe the best segueway of the night, though, and I think his original song was second only to Marty's. I got into "Pretty Vegas," and I thought it would fly as an INXS song (of course, the tracks were all written by INXS, right?) I also enjoyed the sound effects. It was fun. #3

Suzie - I Can't Make You Love Me - I totally agree with you, NC. It kind of fell flat - and I could see Jordis's influence all over it. It would've come off more genuine from Jordis. The transition must've been okay, because I don't remember it, really, other than I noticed that the slit in her skirt was too high for comfort - otherwise she looked beautiful. Soul Life - I thought the song was too preachy, a common mistake among beginning song-writers, but it wasn't bad. She dedicated it to Ty, and it sounded an awful lot like something Ty would write. Not like an INXS song. I'm sorry, Suzie doesn't belong in rocknroll. She would be better in the whole "diva" arena, like a Celine Dion, and she'd probably make more money. ;) #4

MiG - Hard To Handle - I thought his rendition was kind of blah. I didn't believe him. He would not be "hard to handle" - he's the Nice Guy, no matter how hard he may try to disguise that. The guitar solo was great, but that's good on the house band.... The transition was awkward with the stage hands bringing in the keyboard and the problems, it seemed, with the PA system at that point. Hard to blame him for those problems, but they contributed to the awkwardness. Home in Me - I didn't like the song either. It was kind of juvenile, and it also seemed to me that he wasn't carrying the tune really well - that could've been partially due to the PA problems; I know sometimes it's hard to hear when you're on stage, and I didn't see a moniter near him. The fact that I even thought about all of that is another indicator that the song just didn't grab me. What a let-down after last week. #5

Jordis - First of all, she looked like an unmade bed with some blue eyeliner slapped on. Not appealing. Then her rendition of We are The Champion didn't quite 'get there,' IMHO. I expected more out of her. I did like the flash of anger I saw, but there was not enough of it. This was better than JD's rendition, but that's not saying much. Transition was okay, but I agree with Dave, she seems to lack the fire and passion that she had at the beginning of the series. I liked Try Not. I was wanting to sing along with her - it was fun, and she almost brought herself out of the hole with that. To me it sounded like an INXS song. #2

Marty - Everlong - I didn't really like his rendition, but I appreciated what he was trying to do in staying with INXS's suggestions. I just hope he doesn't sell his soul to get this job, know what I mean? The transition was kind of dumb and too much talking, but...... I'm with you, NC. I thought the song was fun, fun, fun! "The best song and performance of the night. " I agree with your comment comparing him and JD. I think I'm irreparably behind Marty now, after that song. He's #1!!

I think Jordis will be the next Rocker to go, but I don't agree with that. I would vote Suzie or JD off first.

Yeah, I was really sad to see Jordis go. She's been my favorite from the beginning and based on the first 1/2 of the show/season, I thought she would be standing in the final three at least, but after the one bad performance her confidence got shaken and I think she started thinking about the competition aspect too much. I'm sure she will do well though and get a contract after the show is over, not a doubt in my mind.

Now I am not sure who to root for. I like Mig, but I don't think he is right for INXS. I loved his ballad, especially having recently lost my mom, but I just don't think his style fits INXS.

J.D. is a good showman, but I can't stand his attitude. He seems really immature to me and if I was INXS, I would be worried that if he got mad about something he would just quit the band out of spite. I'd really like to see him leave.

So for me it's down to Marty and Suzie. I don't like Marty as much when he screams, but when he sings he's can draw you in; he's a good showman. I think Suzie is awesome, has a great voice, and I like her personality. I would probably like Suzie over Marty, but even though they continue to say that they are willing to have a female lead, I still wonder if they will really be able to see a female as the lead singer even on a sub-conscious level. Then again, they could decide to go in a different direction with a female on purpose to try something different.

In any event, I think Marty and Suzie will be sitting in the final two.

I think JD did himself in by being himself early in this game. What a jerk.He is kicking some butt lately, though.Pretty Vegas Rocks!
He did Money well,too.
I agree(or hope) it will be between Marty and Suzie in the end.
Mig needs to go cuz he sounded like a girl when he sang Kissed by a Rose.
Paint it Black was weak, too. And it's such a great song.
Marty will seal the deal with his song The Trees.
They want that song!

Wow, HOuston, you think they want Trees that much?
Mind you, I was really happy when they said they'd be doing Trees again last night. I love t hat song too.

ok, down to the nitty gritty...

First up:
SUZIE-Interstate Love Song- I used to really love that song but I don't like what Suzie did with it. Was it just me or did she flub lyrics twice in the song and try to cover it up? She seemed like she was faking it to me.

What's UP- She really felt this and it showed. I enjoyed this performance. What a voice. She did scratch it though at one high note.

J.D.
Pretty Vegas- wasn't as good as either of his first 2 performances but still a great little rock and roll tune.
I thought it was funny that the megaphone was all sparkly now.:D I guess he was tying it into "money"
Money- He got right into the down and dirty of it. Great job. I love the way he worked the crowd in between songs- big rings were appropriate, loved the way he threw money at the crowd.

MARTY- yeah! I really liked the acoustic version of Trees-pretty brave of him to do a different rendition- his voice sounded raw and amazing.

Creep- wow, he really captured the essence of this song- he barely MOVED for the entire song and yet he OWNED the audience. Penetrating eyes- he gave me goosebumps

MIG-Paint It Black- He didn't seem to get the GIST of the song....at ALL:doh: !
HIs higher notes on the word "black" totally didn't work. It was weird, I thought, that INXS went for it. Plus, that last note was shaky.

Kiss From a Rose- way to SLAUGHTER a gorgeous song Mig! off key, the "ba da da da da da da da da" sounded AWFUL! Boring.
That being said, I think Mig's a sweetie pie.

SIGNIFICANT: The interviews with INXS- Marty was so confident it was amazing. Inxs looked like they were ready to follow him right then and there. I really think that Marty is their long term guy and will really kick start the band into a second incarnation. JD is their next best fit but I could see his ego abandoning the band for a solo thing.

Suzie needs to be solo too. I love her voice but I don't think she's right for inxs.
Mig needs to get back on musical theatre stage where he belongs.

Well, we had a storm here last night, and that meant that we didn't get to hear Marty or MiG sing. I was upset, but then I put in my new CD (Cloud By Day, by Keith and Sanna Luker and JoAnn McFatter - awesome) and it was all better.

Anyhoo, I thought Suzie was okay. C+ - B-

And I loved JD's set, especially "Pretty Vegas" - that was great.

I agree on the interviews, NC. I think they've already picked Marty, and it's all over but the crying, so to speak. I would pick Marty too.

MiG could be a Broadway star, and maybe that's what he should do.

I miss Jordis.......
