Whats the philosophy of rock 'n' roll? It seems to be a rebellion against the system, by people who actually dont realise it IS the system.

"sticking it to the man" :)

To me, as a rock'n roll musician myself, it means freedom and a way to discharge emotionally.

But I feel the same way about pretty much any genre of music.

It's just a form of art.
Some art is politically loaded and some art is simply about an emotion or a color or something important to the artist, yet irrelevant to the audience.

Rock'n roll isn't any different imo.

Are you talking about rock´n roll as the 50s/60s genre (petticoats and stuff), or about rock music in general?
Why would you think that rock music has or must have a unified philosophy?
It seems to be a rebellion against the system,
Maybe. Which system, specifically?

Personally, I am playing rock music I play because it´s fun and because I like the sound of it.

At one time, rocknroll was formally rebellious and song oriented. So it was a good avenue for rebellious content as well.

But rock music might be played-out in terms of formal novelty. What new forms will come along that might serve as a better conveyor for radical ideas???

The song itself does seem to be a very enduring form, though.

Does music really have a philosophy?
Good question. Some people try to ban it because of the power it has over the emotions. Thats a psychological issue, and a political one. We can see in some contemporary music videos, performers use sex and money to advertise a song and its message. In rock and roll, well I took the philosophy to be one of musical excitement and a thrill seeking attitude to music and its influence.

...while the philosophy of other music styles is to create boredom and indifference?

Quatona. I am not sure, there are many forms of music that are meant to be exciting. The origins of rock and roll, werent they in the blues? And the blues came from (was influenced by) field hollers I think.

The field holler was afaik meant to be soulful response to oppression and slavery, making a day worthwhile. Singing the blues away under the hot Mississipi delta sun.

Rock and roll came more as liberation - when times were more free and open - and was more of a "white" genere (Elvis being the King I think), afaik.

Its noticable though that many of the contemporary pop artists from the USA are using the word "rock" in their lyrics, where for a long time its been a forgotten idea.

I like the song "We Built this City on Rock 'n' Roll".

Firstly, does rock and roll exist, and secondly if it does what is its nature?

Is theoretical knowledge possible, or do you have to have experience of it, or "knowledge by acquaintance" like tasting the taste of ice cream - to know what it is really?

Is listening sufficint condition to be a rock and roll oficionado, or do drink, cigarettes and wrangler jeans help too?

Sorry, meaningless questions in my understanding of the world.

Is theoretical knowledge possible, or do you have to have experience of it, or "knowledge by acquaintance" like tasting the taste of ice cream - to know what it is really?
For me, this is a semantics question rather than an epistemological one.

Is listening sufficint condition to be a rock and roll oficionado, or do drink, cigarettes and wrangler jeans help too?
I see no need whatsoever for such normative judgements.

It's part of the trinity of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. I think the goal is to be dead before 50.

In order to be a TrueRockAficionado you need to drink, smoke, consume illegal drugs on a regular basis, have promiscuous sex, drive a motorbike, have at least shoulderlong hair, at least three tattoos and an intime piercing. Anybody not fulfilling all these criteria doesn´t count.
I know this intuitively.
