CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Very few rock bands or song even go into any sort of releigion or morality...unless you listen to alot of Black Metal. In fact now adays rock music is nothing more ethan a whinny bunch of guys getting all depressed about their highschool romances and being dumped (i.E Anything EMO)
Now Queen...Freddie Mercury....MeatLoaf, Yes, those were awesome rockers, and none of them promotoed "Satan" as you say.
You need to listen to dream theater...it will change you entire view of music and rock entirely.

I can think of alot of rock that dosent promote sex, drugs, or violence.
Heck, even a song like Mein Teil from Rammstein dosent promote anything bad, although it does tell a freaky story. (but thats industrial, but im sure you are lumping that in there too)
I dont see too much wrong with kidneythieves.
Linkin Park dosent promote much stuff that would be bad from a chrisitan standpoint.
Theres nothing wrong with VNV at all, but thats not rock its electronic.

As someone who grew up on 'rock and roll' and still enjoy it I have to ask just what kind of music are you referring too? Certainly not the entire 'rock' genre just because it's classified as 'rock'...that would be stupid. If your referring to certain bands, certain songs, certain underground-type groups you may have a point. I don't know anything about that though, I don't have anything in my very large CD collection that promotes anything except personal emotions of the artist and some good beats to dance too.

Music is a matter of personal taste. There are plenty of rock songs that promote sex, etc and plenty that dont. Yeah, I grew up listening to a lot of preachers making the same generalizations. Then I discovered Christian rock....you really can have your cake and eat it too!

Dunno what I'd do without my Soil, Ill Nino, Allman Brothers, Soundgarden, 30 Seconds to Mars, or Black Label Society CD's. Satan did a pretty good job with those guys I suppose.

One of the highest sellign rock albums Evanescence's "Fallen", with "American Idiot" also high on the list. "Fallen" was basically focusing on attempts to bounce back from problems in life. American Idiot did mention drugs in a couple songs, but the topic was the sad side of the life of a fictional character called the "Jesus of Suburbia" and his disciple "Saint Jimmy". It included two unrelated songs, including the title track, which were directly focused on the government and Bush, neither of which mention drugs or sex, both of those were on the top of the Billboard Rock Single chart when they were released as singles. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" which was widely loved until overplayed insanely and was the Overall Top Single (Source: Billboard) for multiple weeks, never mentions drugs.
Rock music is the music of the common man. It is angst and passion and love and hate and fears and hope all rolled into one strong package. It has no rules, swearing is accepted, but not required. Murder is still frowned upon and politics are always at the forefront. Nobody is turned away. It is not focused at one race or gender or socioeconomic level or sexual orientation or ethnicity or anything else.
