Yah, that's not going to happen.

The only thing that Rift has going for it right now is that it's new and fresh compared to WoW. If Blizz does cancel WoW, which I highly doubt they will considering what a cash cow it is, it won't be because they have lost domination of the market, but because they choose to focus their whole team on the new game they are working on.

The only things you've been hearing are rumours by one side or another. Rift fans are all up in the "this is the WoW killer" thing and WoW fans are disgruntled because they want a good response from Blizz in the form of a major overhaul which I'm sure will happen, but knowing Blizz, it won't be for a little bit.

I personally don't care much for either game. *shrug*
I'm waiting on Richard Garriott's new project.

Only time will tell, really. A lot of people are tired of WOW nerfing everything. I've heard a lot of migration going on over to Rift... i myself am considering it. I've been playing WOW since BC was released & i'm pretty burned out on it, even with the Cata overhaul. But i'd be doubtful that Blizz has any plans yet to close WOW. I'm sure they'll milk it for everything they can.

Blizzard is actually making a new MMORPG. Apparently it's set in a completely new universe. It won't be released for a long time though. As for Rift, I'm watching it. I also watched Aion, and that failed to kill WoW. If Rift is stable in say... 6 months, I might get into it.

Nothing can "kill" WoW except WoW itself. It has a player base of 12 million. . .that's a really big number! Rift seems interesting, and I may try it if they ever offer a free trial, but WoW and Rift offer different things. WoW is an MMO that is for average people, even those who don't normally play video games. Rift is more oriented towards the normal video game audience, and it's also sci-fantasy, rather than magical fantasy. People can enjoy both, and I'm sure that Rift will be a success, but a WoW-killer? hardly!

WoW has always made me angry. People pay unnecessary money to play a game that is extremely similar to Guild Wars.

And for everyones information, take note.

Guild Wars 2 will be the WoW killer. AND it will be F2P. The way it should be.

WoW and Guild Wars 2 will be very different, at least from what I hear. And I don't understand why WoW makes you angry -- that's like saying you're mad because people like Call of Duty better than Halo. It's a decision everyone makes for themselves, and I personally find the money well-spent. . .where else can I get a month of interesting, fairly educational entertainment for ~15 dollars?

I'm not all that interested in it being a WoW killer. I'm more interested in a new MMO-type game that will hold my interest and have a stable population. Take EVE for example. It's a lot smaller than WoW, but it has a stable population. For me, it was very boring though. Of course, all I did was mine. I'll check it again once they release Walking in Stations again.

I wonder how much of WoW's monthly fees are actually profit. I'm sure it's a fairly large markup, but the massive amount of power and maintenance required to run that game certainly somewhat justifies a monthly cost.

Like I said, I'm not against Rift at all - I just think it's rather silly of people to say that it will "kill WoW". I'll probably try it, but not until they have a free trial -- college is expensive! I've never tried EVE, simply because I'm not as interested in sci-fi as I am fantasy/sci-fantasy.

EVE can be very boring if you're not into that type of game, or if you're like me and do nothing but mine (very repetitive). I suppose I never really went out of my way to make it interesting. The sheer size of the game is what impresses me.

The "world map" is a spiral galaxy (fully three dimensional). The galaxy map is composed of little dots, each representing a star. You can visit every single one of those star systems in the game. The inner regions of the galaxy are controlled by NPC nations, and that's where you start out. The further away you go from the center, more lawless things become. Eventually you're in "0.0 space" which is completely lawless. Player groups often take these areas over and form their own nations. It's pretty amazing. Huge scale wars and deceit drive the competing corporations against each other.

In Eve, you can be whatever you want, so long as you can conceive of it in a space ship. You can be a trader, a miner, a bounty hunter, a pirate... Heck, you could probably start an investment firm if you tried hard enough. As an example: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Eve-Online-Economy-Suffers-700-billion-ISK-Scam-33737.shtml

I agree with the "Killing WoW" thing. I am waiting until the free trial to try it and sticking to my WoW. :)
