Correction: It contains 3 Biblical names, not just Lazarus. Moses and Abraham were quite literal. It is literal and VERY detailed and consistent with the NT doctrine of eternal punishment in the eternal fire. There are those who insist that this is not a parable but it is a true story because it contains a name, Lazarus. Doesn't this put you in the unfortunate circumstance of also needing to say "Jack and the Beanstalk" is a true story because it also contains a name? Where do you buy your magic beans?
Good catch! Indeed, Abraham and Moses are mentioned in it.Correction: It contains 3 Biblical names, not just Lazarus. Moses and Abraham were quite literal. It is literal and VERY detailed and consistent with the NT doctrine of eternal punishment in the eternal fire.
I'm just here for the free pizza!![]()
Judah and his brothers didn't have Moses and the prophets because they came later...Good catch! Indeed, Abraham and Moses are mentioned in it.
Who is the "they" Jesus is talking about concerning the 5 brothers in verse 28,29?![]()
Lazarus and the Rich Man - Here a little, there a little - Commentary
Jesus vs the Pharisees
Luke 16:27 "Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house,
28 'for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.'
29 "Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'
30 "And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.'
31 "But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.' "

"for I am having 5 brothers...." Luke 16:28
Why would that matter concerning this parable?Judah and his brothers didn't have Moses and the prophets because they came later...
absolutely... story must be valid. Can't have a farmer planting spring seeds in fall or chickens under ground hoping for turnips ..Why would that matter concerning this parable?
....
I would never make a good farmer or vineyard keeperabsolutely... story must be valid. Can't have a farmer planting spring seeds in fall or chickens under ground hoping for turnips ..
Perhaps that is what is so confusing to the unbeliving Jews of today.Yeshua never started out in the telling of this story with the words.. here is another parable.
The Bible is a single Book with multiple Books with stories in them. So not sure what yer point is.Parable.. singular... Parables...plural
Thank you vis.Your interpretation may not be valid.. the first one is a parable.. the second could be something else and the last one could easily be a true event yet to happen.
He didn't do this with every parable.WHEN CHRST GIVE A PARABLE HE THEN WOULD TELL THE DECIPLESWHAT IT MEANT , WHAT DOES IT MEAN???????????????
