RFK wants to ban Riboflavin, and other "chemicals" he can't pronounce, from foods

AI Overview says: Riboflavin (vitamin B2) itself is not banned in Europe for use in food or animal feed, but there have been concerns and restrictions regarding specific riboflavin additives produced by genetically modified bacteria.

So that's why riboflavin was mentioned.
Do you have any source that isn’t a chatbot? Because I couldn’t find anything like that on the Food Babe’s blog.

What did Food Babe have to say about riboflavin then?

Also is the whole MAHA moms food ingredient campaign based solely on what's in Food Babe's blog?

You haven't demonstrated that RFK Jr. wants to ban Riboflavin. I've searched high and low. I can find no such statement from him anywhere. Again, if you can show me where he's said this, I will correct my statements.

I've even searched "The Food Babe's" website and I can't find anything on there that suggests she wants to make Riboflavin illegal.

Finally, something truthful!

That's quite a leap of logic.

No, it really isn't.

And that's probably a good thing, since the vast majority of food additives on the GRAS list were not green-lit by the FDA but by the food and chemical companies, per the CNN article I posted earlier this morning. Here it is again:

Nearly 99% of new chemicals used in food or food packaging since 2000 were green-lit for use not by the FDA but by the food and chemical industry, according to a 2022 analysis.

I'm not saying that, at least in principle, that it is a bad thing. To be honest about this, the FDA does not evaluate any food "additives," but has allowed the industry to handle it. As such, once GRAS goes through they will need all additives they believe can pass to be approved by the EPA -- the issue being the EPA has no process or personnel assigned to this type of work. And, with cutbacks in the FDA, they'll have extra work with fewer people, meaning it could be months and even years for various supplements to be approved. Of course, I suspect that RFK may view that as a feature, not an issue.

As someone who "believes in science", don't you think it would be wise to understand the impacts to health of a food additive before just allowing it to be added to the list?

Again, I always supported the idea of getting additives out of food; I thought it might be a good think RFK might do. However; seeing him dealing with the MAHA Moms and the Food Babes, I have concerns about how he will do it -- as he has always seemed to hold the "personal experiences" of moms and non-scientists over science. I'd have no issue adopting the EU food standards, even on a temporary basis until the FDA can do its own analysis of additives; though I can't see Trump or others in his administration allowing us to follow standards of the "liberal EU."

lol, okay, that’s how it’s going to go? I’m not going to spoon feed you all sides of an argument (that I’ve already linked to) just so you can dump some ill-informed opinion on us. If you’re too busy to do a couple of minutes’ worth of reading for yourself, then your take isn’t worth responding to anymore.

I'll take that as you couldn't find anything in Food Babe's blog about riboflavin. Also asking someone what the article link(s) they injected into the discussion said, is a great way to see of they actually thoroughly read it/them or not. Especially when they throw a fit like you have over being put to the test.

The OP title is blatant disinformation. At no point has RFK Jr said that he wanted to ban Riboflavin, and the Instagram video in the OP doesn't suggest that he does. He's reading from the list of ingredients in foods, but at no point did he suggest he wanted to ban Riboflavin.

If there's one thing that has stood out to me since Trump's election, it's how the left has become a sucker for propaganda and disinformation in the same way they complained about the right. They are now purveyors of disinformation that aligns with their preconceived ideas. It's amazing what an agenda can do to someone's objectivity.
This is really sad.

RFK is a Harvard educated elite.

Apparently the big fuss is he read a list of ingrediencies that had riboflavin as one of a bunch of other ingredients. When it comes to processed foods they have a long list of ingredients. Whereas the ingredient of a strawberry is a strawberry. Not every ingredient in the long list of ingredients is an issue. There can be a poisonous solution that has water as its main ingredient. There can be a substance that has 9 harmless ingredients and only 1 toxic ingredient.

I didn't hear any MAHA Mom say that riboflavin is poisonous.

One of them said, if you're a company that's putting something poisonous in the food you sell to the US, but not to other countries, we're coming for you.

And that is a thing. There are ingredients that are put in processed food that's distributed to the US, that aren't put into the same processed food that's sold to other countries, because they have standards against those items. What RFK and MAHA moms want is more transparency and tighter standards like other countries have. Which is not a bad thing that is being spun into being a bad thing.
Democrats regarded RFK as a respectable and intelligent man. Then he went against the Democratic Party and now, all of a sudden, he is accused of being an idiot. I wonder what kind of villian to the Democrats JFK would have been if he was alive today?

Many do. I have even heard stories about wives divorcing their husband's because he voted for Trump. I mean, look at how Democrats are gaining up on Chuck Schumer now. But to stay on topic, my point is that if RFK had been nominated by Biden and had not insulted the Democratic Party, I don't think many Democrats would have batted an eye.

Another question: Why are European health laws better than ours?
It comes down to a simple difference in principles between EU and USA governing.

EU: It's allowed if proven safe, not until
USA: It's allowed until proven unsafe

Don't agree with RFK on vaccines and a lot of other things at all, but at least when it comes to foods, he generally at least seems to have the right idea.

Dihydrogen monoxide kills thousands of people every year. And the Biden administration even allowed it in our food supply!
All food** is chemicals.

Apparently, he also wants to ban seed oils; he thinks saturated fats from cattle, aka talllow, is healthier despite studies pointing to the opposite conclusion. (Link)

**except that for thought

It really depends on the additives. There are safe preservatives that are a heck of a lot healthier than bacteria, fungi, etc. to ingest. The vitamins added to bread, white rice and milk are a good thing overall for kids especially.

I'll take that as you couldn't find anything in Food Babe's blog about riboflavin.

That’s because you didn’t bother to read the thread, including the quotes I posted from it in response to one of your earlier questions.

Also asking someone what the article link(s) they injected into the discussion said, is a great way to see of they actually thoroughly read it/them or not. Especially when they throw a fit like you have over being put to the test.

I already quoted it in an earlier response to you. Perhaps you were to busy too read it.

The value placed on people’s health has a relatively higher priority. The reasons for this are not entirely altruistic however.
I agree. I believe we are behind because of corporate money, and why the FDA hasn't updated our laws is beyond me.

I believe in the EU principles; it should be common sense, and American politicians are greedy. Some of our politicians get rich on a government salary. We have a healthcare cabal; getting healthy is bad for business.
