At our housegroup they mentioned the Toronto Blessings and the Welsh Revivals.
Fascinating! Does anyone know what happened in these events?
I think it was a massive outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Like what was described in Joel 2:28-29.

Roberts Liarden, in his excellent God's Generals series, takes a look at Evan Roberts below. The Welsh Revival was immediately before the mass outbreak of Pentecostalism at Azusa St. There are videos on the Toronto Blessing on youtube as well. I was there, but a bit after it had peaked.

If you are interested in revivals try DayOne publications and the book Revival by B.H. Edwards.
It seeks to discribe what revival is and what the effects are on both the Christians and nonchristian communities, without taking a charismatic or non charismatic bias.

Quote from the welsh revival. Man asking a station porter where the revival was and when would he reach the nearest station. told. ' You'll feel it in the air!' It was a community saturated with God.

I attended a Toronto Blessing meeting with their head Pastors, John and Carol Arnott a few months back. They still minister but are retired. Still have the manifestations. I think Duncan Smith now heads Catch the Fire Toronto. I felt God's presence rest on me.
They have branches in Canada, the US, Australia, England. www.catchthefire.com

Together with John and Carol is Randy Clark, also still going too. Focuses on healings and words of knowledge and prophecy and impartation, gets many stories. At one of Randy's conferences I was set free from a sin issue, stayed free seven years now. Home - Global Awakening

Rodney Howard Brown still has his church.

Guy Chevreau is also still going. He wrote Catch the Fire... the namesake. Good read. They wrote books, the Arnotts, Clark. You can read them, short and long ones and courses. People in the books are still ministering. The young inturns of the 90s are now in motion and there are new inturns. There are a lot of apostles and prophets... conferences... education.

The Welsh Revevivals 1914 to 1905. God used a Preacher named Even Roberts. You can Goggle it.You will find alot of information on it.
The Toronto Blessing started on January 1994.As far as revivals go this one holds the record for the longest revival in this century.Like all revivals they can have alot of controvercy and like all revivals the worst controvercy come from christians from past revivals because it does look like their revival.God always does a new thing.I was there in 1995 for a week.I did not wont to leave.I was all about meeting and experiencing God as a father. You can goggle that one to.
I have researched alot about past revivals.Check out the 1906 Azusa revival.
If you wont some more addition enformation about The Toronto revival let me know.I have some that you will not find on goggle.

The Toronto blessings, I recall from the 90s. Rick Joyner was a major influence, and it certainly influenced the very good (generally) Charismatic Church I went to (Hope Chapel, Austin).

Some stuff went weird though, at the church I went to, and with various parts of the "movement" as it spread through Charismatic circles.

In retrospect, I continue to consider of denominations "Charismatic" as the most right one, but of course, there are many bad offshoots, and corruption can set in where it is not expected.

I can only add, from an experience from a distance, that faith in the heart, where the Spirit is, is where revivals should be expected. The Kingdom is within and around us, and the true revival is when we can truly see that.

Re the Toronto blessing. Rick Joyner have no influence on it.I was there in the early years. It was awesome watch God take the foolish things of this world to confound the wise.
It was Larry Randolph and someone else. They had stopped at The Toronto church for a few hours on there way back to the US.They had just come back from the Argentine revival any they brought back a few sparks. They left for the US that night. The neck night Toronto called them to get back there the place was on fire with the fire of God.God was in the house in a big way and they needed help as they had help in Argentine revival.

I'm reading a fascinating book by Michael L Brown, who was closely involved with the Brownsville revival in its early stages. It is called "Let No One Deceive You." Very enlightening and helpful. He knows how to kick the critics of modern revivals into touch! (for those who don't understand rugby, kicking into touch is the act of kicking the ball over the sideline at an angle to gain ground toward the scoreline.)

I couldn't see it on Kindle either. None of his books seem to be on Kindle. They might have to be ordered as paper backs from Amazon, if the shipping costs of getting it to you aren't too much. Otherwise you might have to trawl around the Christian second hand bookshops in your city, or you could try Ebay, or you could put an advert on Facebook and see what responses you get.
Here is the Amazon link:
