  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I found a vegan protein powder to get that extra protein during the day, since I try to start each day with a fruit/veggie smoothie. It tastes alright (first thing to overwhelm the taste of banana lol), but it's got 20g of protein and only 2g of sugar. So many of the snacks and whatnot in the store claim high protein, but the sugar is even higher than the protein they give you. Downside is that it's $50 from the company and $35 from Amazon.

My 20 year old daughter came back from college as a Vegan.
Let me start with that.

I understand the health aspect of it, but not the militant aspect of it -- as in "I don't eat anything with a face" or "My body is a garden, not a graveyard." etc..

But one question I have have.. well two maybe:
How do Christians who are Vegans reconcile Proverbs 24:13-14
"My son, eat honey because it is good,
And the honeycomb which is sweet to your taste
;
14 So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul;
If you have found it, there is a prospect,
And your hope will not be cut off."

That would be King Solomon, one of the wisest men in the world.
Also, what about all the talk of a land flowing with milk and honey?
Is the Bible wrong, or are you wrong?

PS: Nothing against Vegans as a personal choice--but to shame me, when the Bible specifically instructs me to eat honey--well now that's not going to work. I personally believe eating LOCAL honey is the key to health and happiness because what I heard an old farmer tell me one time, the bees go around and pollinate all the things that might make you allergic, and as you eat local honey to your area, you build up a tolerance for the things that might otherwise make you allergic. It made sense to me and sounded like it was coming straight from the Holy Spirit Himself as I was listening. (You start to learn when you hear wisdom).

Not trying to start a war--just curious how Christians reconcile that specific Proverb.

Not being vegan---I didn't know that they don't eat honey--why is that??--it's only bee vomit!--or did I just answer my own question?!

Here's an article from the Washington Post talking about Rev. Franklin Graham becoming vegan. It talks about his transition, in which he decided to start eating vegan as a New Year's Resolution for primarily health reasons.

Why all Christians should go vegan

In his Twitter account, he does reference the Bible about being vegetarian, however, so one may assume it's not all about health.

"In the Bible, Daniel went on a vegetable diet & after 10 days his appearance was better than the others who hadn’t. "- Franklin Graham

Daniel could find no kosher food in Babylon's courts. Jewish law DOES permit a Jewish person to eat unprepared fruits and vegetables from a Gentile.

The Torah expressly permits the eating of meat. Jesus himself at fish after his resurrection (Luke 24:42, 43.)

Nothing wrong with Veganism (except the annoying missionary militancy of some of its proponents) but there is no Biblical mandate for it.

Funny. There is a verse in the new testement that clearly and directly references the idea that one is not a better or worse Christian if one chooses to eat meat or not; it is about whether your choice was made for God. Romans 14:3 I think?

Vegans don't eat any animal product, like eggs, milk or honey. And while they might talk about honey as bee vomit, they mostly liken the way we humans hold lifestock to slavery.

Yeah, I don't get it either.
